        Hi,

I get a new rescue this Friday. Apparently male and apparenly neutered. However, he is not acting like a male at all, or a neutered rabbit. According to the shelter he arrived May 12 and was neutered shortly after. I just checked him, and there are no signs of sacks or that fur has been shaved off…wouldn’t there still be? I mean, it would be 4-5 weeks ago.

Depends on how good the vet is. Most of my boys you really couldn’t tell within a few days.

Hmm, okay, but wouldn’t there still be the empty sack left for a while? I really cannot remember how long after you can still see it.

Because rabbits can retract their testicles into hidden “pockets” it’s unlikely that you would still see them after this time unless you’re really digging around hunting for them. What’s his behaviour like?

He is showing no sexual interest in my female (I have never had a male, even neutered, who when he first met a new female did not run after her making oink noises and trying to hump her, even when he is sick), he is fighting with her, and she has always been the easiest to introduce to other rabbits (neutered males and females), but this time she is not friendly at all towards him, which is very strange. He is very busy chin marking all over her droppings. And then the fact that the shelter could not find the papers for his neuter, but said that they had it done.

I am really diggiting around for them, but maybe not enough I will call the shelter now to ask them in more details.

                    That’s a great start!

From what I can remember from my boy’s neuters, the sacks shrivelled pretty fast. But how long it took for the hair to grow back I don’t remember. It was only a small area they shaved though. This is what it looked like the day after the surgery:

Our recent adoptee, Podge is not neutered, on the advice of two vets. He is quite definitely male, and I have never seen his show any interest in mounting any bun, even his gf, Gina, though she has mounted him a few times. He does love chinning things though.
