We’ve been trying to handle Rorschach regularly since he arrived in our home, and he now seems to enjoy being pet. When we hold our hand out in front of him d will usually come closer and crouches down in a very submissive pose so we can pet him. He tends to keep his belly on the ground and we have not been able to flip him over successfully for grooming. He likes to be brushed though, but tends to tuck his hind legs under him when we try to brush the fur there.
Lately Rorschach has been flopping on his side near us and we doesn’t flinch to much when we try to run his belly, but this isn’t at all close to letting us “examine” him. He definitely doesn’t like to be picked up, but we have managed that a few times.

I’m a little concerned that we haven’t been able to flip him over for grooming purposes, does anyone have any tips?

Rabbits don’t like being flipped over – I never flip my rabbit over. There isn’t much grooming that needs to be done underneath anyway.

I’m with Sarita, you shouldn’t need to brush his tummy or anything

I would love to be able to brush my bunnies’ tummies but that is definitely the “no go” zone!

Ok! But what about for health checks or cleaning glands?

If you are two person, one can hold the bunny is a more upright position, against his/her body, with a firm grip under/around the hind legs so the bunny can’t kick backwards, and the other hand around the bunny’s chest. The other person can then inspect bottom and private parts and clean the anal glands. This is how we generally hold our rabbits for these purposes in my household.

I agree with bam, if you have to get under there, try to get done assistance!

As far as regular grooming, most buns can keep their belly area in good condition on their own!
