We have 2 bunnies 1neutered male lion head and 1spayed female rex. I really don’t want to go into details as to why but we need to find them a new forever home. We are seriously heartbroken and wouldn’t even consider this if we didn’t have to. Both are very well taken care of and very sweet. They have been together since we rescued them at 6 weeks old and need to keep them together.

I do not want to just drop them off at a rescue or list them on craiglist. I would like to find them a good home through a bunny forum or bunny reuse or somewhere for bunny lovers. So if you have any suggestions please.

Well, we do not allow rehoming on our website (please read our forum rules) but I would suggest that you do contact your local rescue groups for help on finding a home for them. I agree that Craigslist is a terrible place to find homes for any pet.

If you can give us a general idea of your location someone may be able to suggest a rescue/rehoming organisation in your zone.

Sorry If I wasn’t suppose to post this on BB, I am just really in need of help. We loved these two to bits and I can not just toss them to a shelter and hope for the best. We live in Arnold Missouri near St. Louis.

Again sorry, I’m sure we will figure this out.

                Thank you!

OK, we have a location. Now to find some rescues in the area that may be able to help.
Can you tell me why you can’t keep them… This will make a difference to the time frame involved and what orgs may be best to offer assistance. If you have a regular vet bear them in mind to as they can often help find a new safe home.

Missouri has a House Rabbit Society and they look good. More research to do, be patient.

Contact them, I think they can help point you in the right direction and possibly find a foster home for your babies until they can be rehomed.

Thank you! My baby 7 months old has been hospitalized twice now because he is severely allergic to them. The first time was at 3 months. The doctor told us we can not keep him doped up on Benadryl and that he is to young for zyrtec or clairtin. My daughter is allergic too but old enough she has just been taking a prescription zyrtec everyday for the last almost 3 years. He told us that we are putting our babies health and life at risk.

Are you sure your children are allergic to the bunnies and not the type of hay they are eating? It seems like many people are allergic to timothy hay but do fine when they switch to orchard grass hay or oat hay (I want to say it is tanlover who cannot even bring timothy hay into the house but the bf is fine with orchard). It they haven’t been tested for specific allergies, it might be worth a try. You could always check into having someone foster the bunnies until you’re sure its the bunnies causing the allergies and not something else like the specific hay or something else in the house.

My daughter was tested a couple months after we got the bunnies because she couldn’t get rid of a sore throat and having some breathing issues. She is allergic to timothy hay, pine, and the bunnies. The baby was tested this last hospital visit he is allergic to the timothy hay and the bunnies. They tested for many things. My poor babies are also allergic to most birds. Allergic to cats and dogs but not even a quarter as bad as the bunnies and birds. They said that its the dander bunnies leave as they shed that is really hurting him.

This is really tough as we have never re-homed a pet.

I’m sorry I also meant to say thank you all for the nice thoughts and help. My daughter is beyond heartbroken, but we don’t know what else to do.

You are doing what you have to… Start contacting the rescues, the HRS should be able to give you a list and hopefully they can get them into foster care for you asap. Mean while is it possible to have them somewhere in the house away from the childrens area but where you can still interact, like a nice basement room or enclosed veranda.

At least you know for sure. I’ve heard stories of doctors quickly jumping to blaming the pet without ordering allergy tests. I’m sorry you have to go through this. You obviously love your bunnies very much and it is scary re-homing them, especially when you don’t know who the adopters are. Have you asked around with everyone you know? Perhaps they or someone they know would like to adopt them. That way you would at least know where they are going with some confidence.

Don’t forget to ask your vet, they may be able to help with rehoming especially given the circumstances.

Thank you so so very much!

We actually may have a better solution. My mom who lives about 10 minutes from us may be taking them. My daughter visits with her a lot anyway so this may work. We are hoping the baby’s allergies calm down a little as he gets older or at least till he is old enough for Zyrtec.

This is our last option before re-homing. Praying it all works out.

The bunnies are at grandmas and my daughter has been over there every day to visit them. They don’t have as much room there to run around as they do here but I think they will be fine. Their pen is 4ft by 6ft and has an opening that connects to their big cage. When my daughter is their they have free range of the downstairs family room.
