Hi everyone, I just got my bunnies neutered yesterday. Cookie is doing just fine! He is eating his hay, pellets, vegetables, and drinking. He’s also energetic and back to his normal self. However I’m very concerned for Cream. Yesterday when he came back he was drugged out and the second he hopped into his cage he went over to his litter box and ate one strand of hay, and then dozed off. I figure it was fine, after all they did just come back from getting neutered, but Cookie was already nibbling hay and running around. Seeing cookie eat and cream not worries me… so last night I gave them both a bundle of cilantro, and Cream ate it! This morning I was watching him, he didn’t touch any food, he just drank water. his poops were random small shapes and I just gave him another bundle and he started eating it, which is a relief. The only thing i’ve seen him eat so far is cilantro, they both have pain medication, I just saw him attempt eating hay but it’s barely enough. Should I force feed him with pellet and water mix?

If you think Cream has too little food in his tum, I think you should syringe-feed him. Maybe if you make pellet mash with finely chopped cilantro he’d be tempted to eat it from a saucer or a spoon?

One of my buns had a bit of a rough time after his neuter, but he perked up considerably when I syringe-fed him pellet mash. It often acts as a “kick-start”.
Also make sure he keeps warm. A bun can get hypothermic post anesthesia and not eating adds to the problem. You can give him a hot water bottle or sit him in your lap with a fleece blankie on him. That he is eating cilantro is of course a really good sign. (((((Cream)))))

What I would reccomend is to put hay everyehere he would be, sprinkle some herbs on it that he likes, and keep him warm. Maybe putting pellet mash mixed with hay dust in a small dish and letting him eat from that will make him eat?

              Update:
So I gave him the mushed pellets/water paste and it went well. After a while I actually saw him eat some hay and a couple of pellets from his bowl! I just hope he starts eating more often but as long as he is eating something he should be okay. How long do you think I should give him the pellet/water paste?

I would offer the pellet mash for a few days, or when you see him eating alot more.

                  Great
Hopefully, and most likely, he’ll start eating properly on his own very soon, but as Ben says, you can offer the mash as supportive feed until you are certain he eats.

thanks for your advice you guys Thankfully after one pellet mash feeding it surely did act as a kick start, Creams poops are regular and he’s eating pellets and hay just like his brother!
