        Hi everyone,

My new rabbit Poppy who is 14weeks is very active and when she runs around her cage she bangs into everything and sends things flying. She makes quite a racket and im just wondering is this normal. is she just letting off steam? Maybe its just because she is bigger than Henry that it seems more dramatic! Her enclosure is a complete mess whereas Henrys is super neat. I guess all rabbits are different and maybe she will calm down as she gets older

Sounds like Poppy is having a good time!

When we first got Pringles, she was about that age, she’d be running around the living room, then shoot into her little cage and bounce off the roof and walls. I didn’t know til later that she was doing binkies, she looked like she was trying to tear the place down. She did stop it after a few weeks.

Thats good to hear that her behaviour is normal. she was binkying within five minutes of us bringing her home. We were quite surprised! Its funny the way you describe Pringles bouncing off the walls. Thats exactly what Poppy does.  It sounds sore but i guess they are having fun so its all good!!!

I just read that rubbing lavender oil on a rabbits back is supposed to have a calming effect. I know I’m going to try it on mine!

May I ask, did you read this from a source you trust? Because using essential oils on animals is not at all straight forward. (And lavender oil is an essential oil!) For one thing it should be diluted before application. I would recommend being very cautious. Perhaps you could put some on a cloth or cotton pad and leave it near your rabbit so it will be inhaled. This is a tried and true way to administer essential oils and far less of a risk. Just because they can eat the plant doesn’t mean the oil is necessarily safe.
