I live in Chattanooga TN and so far I can’t find a place to adopt a rabbit near me. I don’t want to buy from a pet store, but places I have found so far are 3+ hours away. If you know someone that is trying to sell/give away rabbits, please help. Thanks!

I would start with this rescue:

          http://www.bunnyrescue.net/

They seem to be based in Your state. I am thinking that their network of volunteers are spread out, and can lead you to a bun being fostered close to home. They would also be able to tell you about any local rescue networks.

Or call your local animal control/humane society/spca. I am sure that they get bunny drop offs far too often.

Just want to say it’s good of you to want to adopt a needy rabbit. Good luck in your bunny search!

a rescue might be willing to meet up with you somewhere more convenient. i agree that contacting local shelters is a great idea, b/c even if they don’t take bunnies, they might know someplace local that does. while not ideal, there are also sites like Craigslist where there are local people that might need to rehome their rabbit (esp months after Easter when they are reaching sexual maturity.)

does your state have a House Rabbit Society chapter? that would be another avenue to explore… they would have info on places where you might be able to adopt.

I would put your name in at local shelters. A lot of times, when a rabbit is surrendered there or brought in, they are euthanized the same day because not enough people come to shelters looking for rabbits. You could say “Hey, if you get any in, please give me a call…” Also try farm auctions and fairs, sometimes they sell meat rabbits there and you could save a bunny’s life….

Keep your eye on your local craigslist as well, perhaps post a “Pet Rabbit Wanted” ad so people know you are looking.

Thanks so much for trying so hard to adopt and not buy. Somewhere out there, the perfect rabbit friend is waiting for you – keep us posted on your search!

There is Petfinders.org also….   They have humane society listings and pet classifieds. Should cover your area too.

OH sometimes at pet stores people put up adds to get rid of their buns. You can put a bunwanted ad there and at vets offices.  Well the rabbit savvy ones anyway.

I found a couple of bunnies in your area on petfinder, one at McKamey Animal Center and one at Cats are reason enough.  There seem to be lots in Huntsville, Alamabam, not sure how far that is for you.  Here is the search that I used.

I looked at craigslist for your town and state and searched rabbit and bunny under pets… I found some buns.. I understand you want to rescue, but these sound like a rescue situation in some way to me. All buns need homes, right?

http://chattanooga.craigslist.org/pet/828918937.html the ad is from the beginning of September. Worth a try though.

http://chattanooga.craigslist.org/pet/847034793.html - a black holland lop! I rescued one just like this on Sunday!  September 17th… maybe stll available?

Also, I would place an ad.. bunny wanted..

There are so many people with neglected bunnies sitting in hutches in the back yard. If they saw an ad they may contact you. It is a chance to give a bunny a happy house pet life.
