Wednesday I got home before the boy friend so I feed the cats. My one senior cat proceeded to puke all his food up all over the house. So by the time I cleaned up and got him settled it was time to make dinner.
I let Shadow out and he goes off under the couch and spends the evening chewing cardboard, and eating a basket of hay, but he was very standoffish. Come bedtime, I get his greens and call him, no Shadow. It is almost midnight and we cannot find him. I accuse the boyfriend of not closing the basement door and we spend time turning the place upside down. I go back to his room with all his cardboard mazes, castles and condos (the bunny projects) and shake each one…not a peep. Now I am crawling around on the floor looking under furniture and find him huddled under the dresser. He hates being handled so I try to avoid dragging him out. I offer him a carrot….no go.
I am trying to pet him and he lunges and grunts at me. Now I am starting to panic…but try a hand full of his favorite greens…nope. Now he is hopping around dodging into his boxes and I can’t get him. I go to get him a bunny cookie and he is now in his condo on the second level and won’t come out. I offer the cookie, and he would not take it. Now I am in full blown panic. he will climb the walls for a cookie. …I have to figure out how to get him out so I can check him out. I am making plans to hit the vets first thing in the morning.
I empty his litter box so I can track his poos. That got his attention, he had to come out to check that out. I put pellets out for him, nada. I offer the cookie again…he takes it! Yeah and then drops it and lays on it!. Thats it, calling in to work sick and taking him to the vet. As I go to get the carrier ready I pass the jar of papayas and decided to try one last time. At that point I realized I had not given him his afternoon treat. The boy friend usually does it. I shake the jar, he mopes over and eats two of them. Ok, well that something. As I turn to leave the room, I hear the sound of munching….there goes the greens, then I hear the sound of a baby carrot, next pellets and finally the cookie. I was had!
All that drama because the little brat did not get his papaya! Two hours of crawling and begging and panic at one in the morning because mommy forgot! My knees still ache. No sympathy from the boyfriend…”stupid of you to forget” Of course the next day, he was lavished with attention and got his before the cats got theirs.
My guys are all good at yanking your chain but this performance gets an Oscar.
