The First Annual Marin Wine Auction had as one of their sponsors Devil’s Gulch Ranch.  This ranch’s “educational services” teaches kids to raise, slaughter and process domestic rabbits (along with pigs, sheep and other animals) to provide luxury meat to restaurants and in the case of rabbits, fur for their crafts.

Save a Bunny sent out a call about this at midnight last night and by 10:30 this morning, the ranch was no longer listed as one of their sponsors.  Now whether this was done just to stop the calls and emails or if they have indeed been removed from the sponsors, I don’t know.  But it is a small victory for those of us who are trying to keep rabbits safe.  Yes, the Ranch will continue what they are doing however they won’t be ‘advertised’ in this very publicized event.

thank you for posting this, markusdark.

I had emailed them and got back this message:

We have received your email message. There has been confusion about the Marin Wine Auction. The Marin Wine Auction is not supporting Devil’s Gulch Ranch. As Event Director, I can state with authority that Devil’s Gulch Ranch is not a beneficiary of the Marin Wine Auction. Regards,Elizabeth May

This appeared on BunSpace as well, but this was an update…

I have *just* received an update from the rabbit rescue who sent out this alert:

            UPDATE 9/10/08 10 am

On their website, The Marin Wine Auction has REMOVED Devil’s Gulch from the list of beneficiaries for the first annual wine auction. HOWEVER, just because Devil’s Gulch is no longer listed does not necessarily mean that they are no longer a beneficiary.

In fact, some callers to the event organizer report they have been hung up on. The event organizers are now sending out emails to people stating that Devil’s Gulch is not a beneficiary. If Devil’s Gulch is truly NOT a beneficiary anymore then please thank the organizers for their compassionate change of heart. We will do our best to follow up on any donations made to Devil’s Gulch=2 0after the event
