So, I had my orientation at my local humane society and tomorrow is my first offical morning with them. I told them I would be there when they open to clean out bunny cages and feed them. I went today and bought them extra hay, spinach, cilantro and lettuce.
My question though is that they do have a new bun mom with three adorable babies. They are only a few weeks old and smaller than my hand but they are quite furry and have those helicopter ears. lol I want to make sure mom gets her veggies but is there a special way to do it to prevent the babies from attempting to eat the veggies, or will the babies not have any interest in them anyways?
I dont have any experience with baby buns so I wanted some advice. Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the advice! I have some fruit to take in as well so they should have a great meal tomorrow!
There is a local guy who is involved with the rabbit society that makes sure they are separating them early and sending bonded pairs out together. Things are running a little better than I initially thought but I of course still have strong feelings about them getting their daily exercise out of their small pens.
I am in love with those baby bunnies at the shelter! You would have thought mom was starving-she was ripping food out of my hand. The babies act so big and they have little helicopter ears! lol I need to ask their age, I have no idea how old they are but they are probably around 1lb each. She kept letting the babies steal lettuce out of her mouth. I tried to keep the veggies away from them but mom would let them have them anyways. They were eating her pellets as well.
We are finally getting things in place. Like requesting only one brand of food for the buns, correct litter (they were using cat litter), toys, etc.
I am so excited. Things are really coming together for our shelter!
