I was wondering if it is important to feed papaya/pineapple tablets to rabbits daily, even rex rabbits with short fur.  Do rex rabbits have less hairball problems in general?

Is Cassy at the pet shop being watched, or is she still home? Has she stopped sneezing?

i would think once a day is only necessary during molting for a rex. during normal times, i would just give one every now and then, maybe once a week.

She’s at the pet shop and apparently is still sneezing.  She might have picked up an infection.  If it doesnt stop with general antibiotic by friday she will be seeing a vet.  I go and visit her again on monday.

you can get human ones, they are the same thing. look in the vitamin section at a drugstore or target or trader joes. they are alot cheaper. just make sure the ingredients are similar those on Oxbow’s ingredients. the ones i got at trader joes had the same ingredients and they were like 2.50 for 100 tablets.

WHOOOPS!!! I forgot to take the "Temp Out of Stock" statement out when I got more in stock. I was wondering why no one was ordering that much anymore. EGADS!  So thanks, if it wasn’t for you, who knows when I would have noticed that mistake.

Regarding whether the papaya tablets  help prevent hairballs;  There are arguments for both sides.  One being that they actually do help prevent hairballs, while others state there is no proof of this.

I look at it as a harmless tasty treat, that may actually do some good (sort of like how vit C was viewed years ago)

With rexes, I honestly do not know if they have less problems.  That is a good question, and I will add it to my list of things to investigate and ask rabbit savvy vets.

I do know that it t can help if you groom your bunny more duriing the heavy molts to help get rid of the hair.

i only give pineapple to my mini rex/rex every once and a while. We’ve never had a hairball problem, but I do brush her every other day…

i think regular brushing really makes a big difference in avoiding build up of fur. lots of hay and fresh water are important too. My kids also get oxbow tablets daily, which they love and may help too
