I just received an email from the San Diego HRS that they have discovered that Petco is going to begin selling baby bunnies from Marsall Farms (a "puppy mill" type breeder).  One of the ways they are going to get a premium price for the buns as well is by spaying/neutering them when they are very very young! As a rescuer, of course I am always dismayed at Petco type stores selling baby bunnies, but I think any rabbit owner would feel horrible for those teeny babies taken from their mother's too young and then put into surgery! If you want more info. on the situation and/or a way to contact Petco to tell them you disagree, here is the link : From what I could tell, it will not only be San Diego where these babies are sold, but other parts of the country as well

Sigh, another reason to shop at PetsMart I guess.  I wonder how they are going to get a vet to do spays on such small rabbits?  The usual time is at least 4 months for a spay, and by that time they are well past the "cute tiny baby" stage.

I don't really know too much about how they would do the surgery at that age...I also wanted to make an addendum to this statement, because a friend of mine adopted 2 rescue rabbits at Petco, so I'm not sure which ones are BAD and which ones are GOOD ? I wouldn't want rescue rabbits to go unrescued because of the protest..these political things are a bit confusing to me

What I read in a posting from a mailing list was that only some PetCo stores will be selling these rabbits, and only stores that do not have a local rescue doing adoption shows.
