My big guy just didn’t want to go on without Sophie.  The vet checked him all out. His teeth were okay. X-rays didn’t show it directly, but his heart and lungs were being pushed out of their proper place– a big lung tumor. It explains why he liked my holding him upright so much—he could breathe better. It also explains the not eating. My parents’ dog had tumors in his lungs and wasted away to nothing over months because eating and sleeping were too hard. Once his girl didn’t need him to be strong anymore, he stopped fighting. He went very easily. His five year adoptaversiary was yesterday.

The lady who was making our sling made a bunch of Liam friendly modifications, and I asked her to donate it to her animal shelter. The bunnies there have story time with dyslexic kids. Liam would love other shelter bunnies to get some love.

The vet said it was amazing that I still had a living bunny to bring her 4 days after he decided not to eat anymore. I don’t feel amazing. I feel like there is a lady at work whose poor female lives outdoors in a tiny hutch with her intact companion and has had babies every 6 weeks since I’ve lived here, and she’s nine years old, and mine died at ages 5, 5, and 7.

I am so sorry about your loss. He was clearly loved and you took great care of him. There was nothing you could do about that tumor, so don’t beat yourself up. You are a great bunny parent. And about your co-worker with the bunny, I think that it would be better for them to live 5 years as a spoiled rotten house bunny, then spending their days outside with little to no human interaction (and probably suffering from neglect) for 10 years. I know it’s hard. I’m very, very sorry. ((hugs))

I feel so much for you. xx  This is so sad.  You have given them such a great life, truly. It’s obvious how much you adore your animals.

Brave and sweet little Liam… No wonder he wasn’t himself. He’s free of any discomfort now and reunited with his girl.

              Binky Free Liam !!

So very sorry for your loss
I’m sure though that he has felt your love, and has lived the happest life a bunny could wish to have.

My chest aches after reading about Liam. What a brave, strong, amazing boy.
I hope his little chest feels light as air as he binkies by the Rainbow Bridge. (((binky free, sweetheart)))

Poor Liam binky free with Sophie

I had something similar happen with our girl piggies last summer. Silky had to be pts, 10 days later her sister Grace was pts as she had a tumour and had lost a quarter of her body weight in those 10 days. letting her follow her sister who she clearly missed too much seemed the kindest option for her, but left us with the heartbreak of a double loss, just as you have now. my thoughts go out to you.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Caudex. It really makes sense that he couldn’t keep his tumor in check without Sophie. He was a beautiful rabbit. He had a great life with you. But it’s very, very hard to loose a bun who isn’t old. But a big lung-tumor is not sth that can be cured in a bunny.

                        Binky free, Liam.

Oh, I’m so sorry Caudex. My heart sunk when I saw the post.

I’m absolutely in agreement with Moxie that a good quality life wins hands down over a much longer but very sad existence.
Up against a tumour, there’s nothing you could have done. Its growth just went into fast forward with the grieving of Sophie.
Your buns were so loved and soooo lucky to have found you, and you them.

                          Cherish your memories with them.

Liam and Sophie are bunny-banana’ing together right now

I’m so very sorry you lost your Liam. Now he can be with his girl…… May they both remain in your heart and memories always.

I know how it feels. I’ve lost quite a few animals young and it doesn’t seem fair. But both your bunnies were lucky to have you and the amazing lives they had.
