Okay guys- I’ve run out of ideas to keep daisy from destroying her house. the floor is peel and stick tiles that we ended up covering with blankets since she was trying to pull the tiles up. well now she’s working on the blankets. if any spare material is up and enough for her to grab she goes for it. and even in the spots where its secured totally flat she will chew and claw at it until she rips it enough to get a grip on it. We know its daisy because MrBun doesn’t act this way and never has. plus we see her do it all the time. She only seems to have a problem if it IS secured down. its like when she knows she can’t move it she gets more determined.

So now I need to figure out a new flooring idea. If I pull up all the tiles they’re left with plywood. and although I know that pretty safe for them i have gotten splinters myself from it (a small annoying one on me would be more than small and annoying for a bunny hand). and then of course i can’t have them chew through their floor which would happen.

Has anyone found ways to curb their destruco bun’s habit? She does have enough to chew on, granted they don’t have many toys that aren’t for chewing but they’ve never been interested in them. Will spaying her stop this behavior? we can’t have her spayed for another at least 2 months (money issue). She doesn’t really chew on anything outside of their house. We bought a new tv a couple weeks ago and they LOVE that mom and dad let them have the box. It keeps them occupied for a good while when they free roam and they have a smaller cardboard box in their house.

Digging is normal. Try a diggy box. You can build one with a box, cut two or three holes big enough for the buns in the sides, then fill it with as much shredded paper as possible. For chewing, you can throw some bits of cardboard in there so she chews those pieces. Chew toys outside of the diggy box would be a good idea too

Spaying might help calm the need, but im not sure if it will completely stop her need to rip at the tiles. You can try a custom coroplast bottom from C&C cages that might help. My buns dig in their cage when they are bored and theyve never been able to even pop a hole into the coroplast

I’ve heard of the diggy boxes before, but how likely is it that they will turn it into a potty box? which I guess if they do I can always just take it out. and they currently have a cardboard box in their house that they like to hide in- should I put the paper in it or give them a second box so they have an empty on and a diggy one? and would regular computer paper be good?

for the coroplast- how would you secure it? its plastic and they’ve never chewed their litter box or other plastic toy so I don’t know that I would absolutely have to screw it down but she is one determined little girl.

Depends on what you use for litter. And even if, a diggy box is just a box and shredded paper so it is inexpensive I would make a second box so they dont feel like they lose their first one. I think computer paper is best. You generally want something without ink on it, and if you have to use something with ink, make sure it is soy based and that they dont eat very much of it

If you get a custom coroplast base, you would measure the bottom of their house and send it to the C&C cages people to have it custom made. That is, if they are still offering customs. If they arnt, then all you have to do is find which ones work best with your bunny house. Or get some of their flat coroplast sheets and cut out the bottom yourself I dont have to nail it down for my boys at all, but if you feel the need to then go for it. I have my coroplast just on the floor. Its slippery enough that they cant dig through it or bite it straight on (they can bite the edges, but dont care to), but has enough traction that they can still run around the cage without sliding or falling
