Please forgive me if I’m doing this wrong. I just joined.  I have a question.  I adopted a mini Rex at the shelter. She was there in a cage for 2 months. I’ve had her over a week. She goes into a cage at night when I sleep. Tonight I was sweeping up the debris in her cage from a ball she demolished.  I use a tiny brush and dust pan.  She was chasing my hand and licking me and playing. Suddenly she bit me. Didn’t draw blood. I pulled my hand out quick and yelled ouch.  It didn’t seem territorial. She isn’t scared of me. We have really been bonding. Could it be a love nip or something I did wrong? She’s spayed. ( and microchipped)   I gave her a cardboard box to play with and she’s been excited about it. I thought maybe the excitement had her wound up. I guess I’m asking if it may have been a love nip because she licked me first

I’m not sure if rabbits love bite. She may have been going for the dust pan when she bit, not your hand. One of my rabbits, Daisy, will steal the dust pan every chance she gets. I actually think it affronts her, maybe because of the noise, which to some degree could be considered territoriality though it’s harmless. Your rabbit may also have less good vision. One of my rabbits has excellent vision. Daisy doesn’t. I’m always more careful when giving her a treat. She misjudges distance.

Is that the rabbit in your avatar? She’s gorgeous! I love up eared bunnies. What’s her name?

My doe used to have this thing where she was fine with hand in her cage, but when I touched something she’d nip. It was a territorial nip with her.

So. Rabbits don’t really do love bites… so it could be what I mentioned above. If this is the first time, there might not be a real reason, it just happened.

My very sweet lop would growl and try to bite me when I used a little dust pan and mini broom in his condo. I do it when he’s not in there now.

She nipped me once before. she loves being loosely wrapped in a fluffy towel and cuddle on my lap. She suddenly sat up and started frantically pulling on the towels .  I didn’t know what she wanted.  she finally nipped the palm of my hand. Then I figured out she wanted  the towed to cover her with just her nose, eyes and ears sticking out so I did that for her lol

She seems to have good eyesight. They said she was originally abandoned at a dog shelter. Owner literally dropped her and ran. The dog shelter shipped her to another shelter that takes rabbits. They said she was scuffed up and had really bad eye infections. I just took her to the vet and she’s ok. Eyes seem fine. Just overweight. We’re working on that.
