Licking wee?!

  Hey guys,
  So snowys been a bit of a weirdo lately and has decided to make a habit of licking his wee…? He’s getting an unlimited supply of hay and his usual greens so nothing new there. It’s been going on for the past few weeks and I was wondering if it’s a sign that he’s lacking nutrients? Any suggestions are welcome

  Are you sure he’s drinking it and not sniffing it?
  Olly tinkled in his tray once and it went everywhere once and when I went to clean it up he was licking his tinkle cleaning it up.
  It won’t hurt him, if it was smelly and infected I don’t think a bunny would lick it up, but maybe Bam might know, maybe our bunnies do this sometimes and we don’t notice, but I know bunnies do eat their poop which is normal.

  What do you mean by “wee”? Where i live, “wee” could be another name for manhood or urine. If he is licking his crotch excessively it could mean there is swelling or discomfort. If you are unsure if he is licking or sniffing down there, it is possible he is eating his cecals, which bunnies need to eat. If he is licking/drinking his urine, then i think it would mean something is wrong with his diet but i have no idea otherwise

  Thank you for all your replies. Yes the wee I’m talking about is his urine. He has two litter trays but he sometimes urinates outside of them. He is definitely licking the urine and not eating cecotropes, it’s quite obvious. His diet seems to be normal so I’m not really sure where or why this habit came about?

  We have had mentions of this specific behavior before here on the forums, so it appears it’s not sth super-uncommon. From what we’ve been able to find out, it’s not a symptom of poor health, nor does it indicate any nutritional deficiencies. The habit in itself seems to be harmless.
  
  TLDR: Some rabbits drink their own wee. It’s not known why. It’s most likely not harmful.
