I adopted Basil 6 days ago from the shelter. She was listed as a 5 week old grey short hair rabbit weighing 0.7 pounds. Not only am I not certain that she’s a girl, but I’m not convinced that she’s this young either. Compared to the other baby we adopted (a 5 week old Palomino), she’s much smaller, much softer, much bolder and so much more coordinated.
I was messaging with a lady who runs a Facebook page for rabbit rescue and she thinks she’s a chinchilla breed. Her fur color and pattern supports this but the shape of her body, head and ears remind me of a Netherland Dearf mix.
        What do you think?

Hmm, hard to say. They told you she was only 5 weeks and weighs 0.7lbs? I’m asking because 5 weeks is very young. I’m surprised a rescue would rehome a bunny that young. Anyway, her suggested age and weight don’t really add up to a large breed. So she’s probably an older, but smaller breed. Not a dwarf though. Wow, her ears are big.

Could be a false dwarf Nethie, I suppose.

5 weeks is way young, I agree, but the shelter I got my bunnies from took in between 200-300 bunnies within a couple of days due to a hoarder situation. There was no way to tell which babies belonged to which rabbits and they’ve been desperate to adopt out as many as they could. Seeing that many bunnies in a single shelter is completely mind blowing.

                Oh my, that’s terrible.

I can’t get over her ears! Maybe she’s a nethie mix, no dwarfism gene. Perhaps there’s a little lop in there? I’m basing that off her ear shape. It will be interesting to see if one comes down or if she will have helicopter ears.

I definitely don’t think she is full dwarf at all but her head/face shape remind me of one. She looks like a mouse to me, actually.
Her ears are big for her but they’re so small compared to my Palomino. His head to ear ratio is hilarious. He’s also growing at a faster rate than she is.

Doesn’t look like a dwarf, but does look EXTREMELY cute! I’ve been told my bunny looks like a “false dwarf”, whatever that is. Maybe that’s what your bunny is =D Either way, extremely adorable!
