My two bunnies met for the first time through cage bars today,I didn’t want to do this just yet because my male isn’t yet nutered and my female is too young to spay but my dad had kind of made me “just for a few minutes” he had said (and both rabbits will be fixed, don’t worry)
So I put her in his attached run and closed the door to his cage.
She basically just got super happy and ran around and binkied a lot, she noticed him but didn’t seem to care for him very much. He just sniffed through his bars a little then he flopped and watched her for awhile before falling asleep haha
She layed next to him through the bars while he was asleep for a few minutes.
Are these good signs? I honestly could not tell what they thought about each other at all. I’ve been switching up their toys for almost a month now so maybe they’re used to each other’s scents? Augustus will be getting fixed in two weeks so actual bonding will start in December

There really is no answer for that. Since shes too young yet, it means her hormones likely havent kicked in. Rabbits personalities do get different after their hormones kick in. What you have now are two bunnies who are willing to be friends. But once hormones kick, that could easily turn into two rabbits who want to fight. Then you neuter/spay, and they become friends again when their hormones have drained out. For example on what i mean, girls tend to get very territorial. She may be willing to “bond” with him in his space, but if he touches her space, she may lunge at him and try to get him out. She will grow out of this after being spayed

Very young bunnies, who aren’t dealing with hormones yet, can be easy to bond, but as Mikey said, once the hormones come flooding in, that’s a different story.

Rabbits have been known to mate through cage bars, so even though your female is young, you don’t want to take the chance that she could get pregnant. Also, males can be potent for a month or even a little longer, after being neutered, so it would not be safe for them to be in cages that are too close until after that month has passed.
