My bunny Declan used to be so good about going in his litter box and recently he is going 50% in and 50% wherever he wants! At first I just used the small litter box on the left. Then, I upgraded to the big green one. I had to add a black crate mat because he started urinated outside the litter box and now  I’m using both litter boxes, a crate mat and he is still making a mess. Our tile floors are absolutely ruined! Any advice on how to promote him usually him liter box and not going elsewhere?

Also any tips on how to get smeared bunny matter off tiles floors would be very helpful. I’ve used everything from tilex, comet to brillo pads.

        Thank you!!

I think if you take the cage top off the green base, he’d be more likely to use the box. Rabbits like to have easy escape routes in case they sense danger (whether real or not). With the cage top on, he’s only got the one opening.

How old is Declan? Is he intact or desexed?

Have you introduced any new pets to the house?

Have you always used the same litter material?
Do his feet have a nice covering of fur?

Jerseygirl has made some good suggestions, his age could very well be the reason he is making a mess. How often do you clean out the boxes? My Apollo is very fussy with his box and if left for longer than a day he’ll just pee and poop outside of it. Have you tried putting a hay rack next to/above the litter boxes, to encourage him to sit in there and go to the toilet? Rabbits like to eat and poop at the same time.

In regards to cleaning the tile floors, use a 50/50 vinegar and warm water mix on the area and let it soak. It should scrub off quite easily after 10 minutes or so.

The cage top might be discouraging your bun from using it

I learned that my rabbits poop where they eat.

Where do you put your rabbit’s hay?

Do you put it in or out of the litter box?

And age does matter. When my rabbits where 3-4 months old they were pooping and peeing everywhere!

                How old is your rabbit?

                Is he spade/neutered?
