Hi guyzz I m new here and planning 2 get a rabbit or 2.since none of the nearby shelters have rabbits I planned 2 contact a breeder he has many different types of breeds like Flemish giant Soviet chinchilla angora etc….now my question is which breed shall be best for d climate I live in but b4 I go any further I would lyk 2 mention d rabbits are gonna b kept as house pets.k so let’s proceed d summer starts Frm April to may and max temp is 34 degrees C and it rains from June to September and winters are from Dec to march and climate is not below 20degrees C.the fix is I really like angora breed in fact I m even ready 2 keep it in an air conditioned room during hot summer days.pls and yes my country lies in the tropic of cancer.

34 degrees C is too hot for any rabbit regardless of fur type, but if you have AC and can freeze water-bottles and put near the buns for cooling, that should be ok.

Angora rabbits have to be trimmed, they don’t shed and their fur grow continously. So you need shears to cut their hair all over except on the tips of the ears. That includes the tummy. An angora that doesn’t get its fur cut will suffocate. You cut their hair so they look like small adorable dogs. The hair can of course then be spun.

If you are going to be keeping them indoors with access to air conditioning in summer and heating in winter, which breed you get in terms of climate does not matter. Bam is right about the Angora breed, they are a lot of work, requiring daily grooming and I never recommend someone getting them as their first rabbit. Especially if you might be getting two, you instantly have a lot more work on your hands. Other short hair breeds of rabbit do well with a weekly grooming, or once daily when shedding.

Flemmish Giants are a good breed, very laid back but their size also presents other obstacles when it comes to bunny proofing and the supplies you will get for them.

To decide on breed, I think you need to look at what sort of commitment you want to put into your rabbit (in terms of daily grooming) and what space you have to accommodate for a larger breed or smaller breed, and what fits in well with your lifestyle.

Rabbits shed. A lot (mine live in air conditioning). Angora’s will take a lot of time to groom, and there is no guarantee your rabbit will always allow you to groom her properly, as rabbits typically don’t like to be held. I’m with Azerane – I wouldn’t recommend an Angora unless you have lots of time and patience to maintain their coat. If you keep your rabbit outdoors, just make sure your rabbit has a safe, covered enclosure to live in and space to run and play, so they can live a long and healthy life. Wishing you all the best with choosing a new rabbit friend.
