These pictures are from my new rabbit I adopted three weeks ago, under ears, next to eye left and right side respectively. He is a male lop and from the first day his fur at the bottom of his ear looked thin, is this normal for lops? Also, last week I noticed a bald spot with some dandruff and I suspected mites. I took both my bunnies to the vet and they got a dose of revolution and I also got my carpet cleaned. A week later the issue seems to have progressed with skin appearing more crusty. I was thinking I just have to wait and see and give another revolution dose next month but I would like to hear some feedback.

        thanks,

I don’t think this looks too bad. Sometimes its purely just some dry skin, no parasites involved. It looks as new fur is growing in also, which Im not certain happens with fur mite. Though its been a while since Ive seen it up close!

If you mean the area where base of ear is attached to the head, then yes that’s normal with lops.

Thanks for the advice, I will just keep a close eye on the issue. And yes, I was referring to the base of the ear where it attaches to the head, I thought the fur was thin because he is a lop, thanks for the confirmation.

Odette had one flake like that when I brought her home. The vet treated her for ear mites for three months. He swabbed and said he didn’t see mites, but chose to treat anyway. The flaky bit went away quickly, but I did notice her scratching more after that first treatment.

I was concerned about treating without a positive for mites, but the med worked.

I can’t advise on how quickly treat again. We did monthly and Odette didn’t seem bothered. But I can tell you that I worried after the first treatment because it did seem to get worse before improving. We have had no further problems. Good luck– I hope your bun sees improvement quickly.

My little Bridge bun would often get bald spots from molting and then they would get super dry and scaly looking. She didn’t have mites. Sometimes I would put a dab of mineral oil on the dry spot.
