My rabbit is SO lazy! I leave his cage open and he just lays there and gets out for like 15 minutes to plop down somewhere else. He is still urinating on my bed. ALSO when should I take him to get neutered. He should be like 5 or so months old(not really sure when he was born) . He’s pretty young so I don’t think he is settling. My room is even open for him to roam around but he just stays in the room. He is getting obese and I don’t like it. Should I cut off the mix of pellets (his favorite) and hay and make it ONLY hay? Should I walk him? Sorry this question is everywhere ? He is an uneutered male Standard Rex probably 5 months oldish

I’m not an expert but did get my female rabbit spayed at around 6 or 7 months which I believe was fine and am fairly certain males can at that age as well. I believe rabbits are supposed to get a diet of 80% hay, 10% pellets and 10% vegetables. The pellets are super high in calories and are not actually meant to be used as a constant source of food as it causes them to get very overweight.
Rabbits tend to be most active just before dusk and dawn while are fairly chill the rest of the day so it’s not unusual to find them lounging around. My rabbits go through spurts of running, binkying and exploring for a little while-sometimes up to an hour or two if they’re feeling super hyper and then basically just nap the rest of the time or lay down/eat/poop/drink.

Males can be neutered as soon as their testicles have dropped. When you can see them out, he is ready to be scheduled

Because hes no longer a baby, his diet needs to be altered to what Candle mentioned. If you cant do veggies and greens all of the time, replace that percent with more hay. What hay are you giving him? If he is on alfalfa hay and alfalfa pellets, he will need to be switched over to Timothy hay and Timothy pellets. Alfalfa also adds on weight as its fatty and sugary. How many toys does your rabbit have? Is he used to the room you have him in? Some rabbits take time to warm up to big rooms and prefer to start with pens to get used to the new area

I did guve him a willow wreath that he loved and chewed up but i already threw it out. Im planning on giving him another one. Chew blocks didnt work so i threw those out. I give him Timothy Hay and Alfalfa pellets. He has Both available in his cage all the time so he eats a mix of both. Every time i put hay on top of the pellets the gets the hay off by digging amd eats the pellets but if theyre separated he will eat the hay. He lays down in front of the hay bowl and starts eating and falls asleep. His testicles HAVE decended but since i have school i cant go at any time bc my vet only does surgery in the morning so i have to do it during like fall break. He Is very used to my rpom so thats not a problem

I would try to get him to eat more timothy hay and mix up the variety of hay, like oat hay or botanical hay. I would switch the alfalfa pellets to timothy pellets, and I wouldn’t make it unlimited. I would only give the pellets once a day and maybe cut it down a bit. If you can, try to give him some romaine lettuce and some fresh herbs to replace the pellets.

How long have you had him? I have heard stories of bunnies taking almost a full year to warm up. Maybe try to entice him out of the pen using some fresh greens and close the door to the room he is housed in for a period of time in order to force him to explore his surroundings. This may peak his interest and he will want to explore outside his pen more. Good luck!

As hes becoming an adult now, youll have to wean him off of the alfalfa pellets and onto Timothy pellets. He also shouldnt have unlimited pellets at his age any more. Rabbits six months and older should be fed 1/4th cup of pellets per every six pounds of rabbit

Rabbits should be switched from alfalfa to timothy hay and pellets at around 5-6 months of age as alfalfa is higher in fat and protein. Also rabbits should mostly eat hay and should not have unlimited access to pellets. The most recommended brand of pellets is Oxbow Adult rabbit pellets (made from timothy hay) and feeding measurements are listed right on the bag. I feed my 3-4 pound rabbit 1/8 of a cup of pellets daily. They need to eat more the larger they get.

I agree that it sounds like he is getting too many pellets. He doesn’t need pellets available at all times. You don’t need to cut them off completely, just reduce the amount so that he’s not being free fed. My two adult bunnies who weigh 2.5kg and 3kg only get 2 tablespoons of pellets each per day. They eat lots of hay and get fresh veggies too. Once you reduce the pellets, you’ll find he’ll eat more hay and quite likely have more energy too, since pellets expand a little in the stomach they can make a bunny a little lazy after eating them.
