My husband and I adopted a rabbit when we got married. Neither of us had human or non-human children, so we went ahead and adopted a bunny. Somehow that turned into adopting 17 rabbits and 1 Chihuahua Mix. Along the way we adopted 4 children. Anyway…

Our newest adopted rabbit, Timmy, a Lionhead Mix, is acting lethargic. He is eating just fine (organic hay, pellets, veggies, fruits and herbs). His stool looks normal. He is not coughing or sneezing. I took his temperature and it is 103.5. He has no fever. He is just much less active than normal. I’ve looked in his mouth and everything appears normal. No drooling. His teeth look great. He is a very well-behaved rabbit and put up with me touching him, turning him over and generally just bothering him. I used forceps to open his mouth, simply because it was easier. No spurs. He is chewing his food normally. Help!

Could he perhaps have sone gas? You can give a bunny baby gas drops (simethicone), 0,5 -1 ml. It’s also good if tou can make him move around some, it helps the intestines.
A gas priblem is not consistent with him having a good appetite though. You can still try some gas drops, it’s considered bunny safe, it’s not absorbed by the body but acts locally in the GI canal.

Thanks for your reply! I gave him 0.5 ml of simethicone (got it from the baby aisle of Walmart). I’ve been trying to get him to move around by tempting him with his favorite foods (parsley, arugula, carrots and apples). He has no problem coming over to me to get his favorite treats, but doesn’t bound over like the others. He is not only lethargic, but is acting depressed. I’m going to try giving him another 0.5 ml of the simethicone and see if that helps him.

I’m honestly afraid that he might be sick. He is still eating his hay very well. His posture is normal. I again took his temperature and he’s at 103. But, he isn’t acting normally. Poop still looks good. He is using his litter box and the amount of poop seems to be the same. This morning he ate his pellets and had a mixture of spinach, carrot tops, broccoli and cherries.

It’s very difficult to say what this could be. With buns you go a lit by appetite, poop and pee, mostly appetite and poop. His temp is within the normal range, do you have a baseline (“healthy”) temp?

The symptoms are very vague. Doesn’t quite resemble any of the more common ailments that affect bunnies. Are you in the USA? In other parts of the world there are a few, really nasty, bunny diseases. (Myxomatosis, RVHD 1, RVHD2).
