So one of my rabbits Jasmine has the overgrowing teeth problem. I went to the vet and he showed us how to do it and I have done it before. (I know some people disagree with doing this at home). I use the exact same thing as the vet and everything. Jasmine can be a total diva, and can be fiesty at times. Well tonight was one of those nights and I was feeding her a piece of pepper when I noticed they were bad. I was having difficulty doing it myself so my mom came and helped. Well my mom was cutting her top one when she moved and basically took the whole tooth out. I am so worried. Will Jasmine be ok with one top tooth?? She seemed fine afterwards, so I left her to rest a little before I go out and check on her again. Please give me any advice about this, I am a worried overprotective bunny mom, so any help is appreciated.

It will very likely grow back. Earlier this year my lop jumped out of my arms and broke a top and bottom front tooth. They both grew back without a problem.

The problem with clipping teeth is they can fracture further down the tooth and then infection can get in. If her front teeth are not wearing properly, she might be better off having them removed all together. That way her molars should wear down evenly. Rabbits cope very well without their front teeth.

I agree. If the root wasn’t damaged, then the tooth will grow back. Clipping teeth should be done with extreme caution since, as Jersey said, there is the risk of fracturing them. If they are a real problem and they need to be clipped often, then having them removed might be easier on everyone (and more cost effective in the long run).

I also want to mention that if your bunny has problems with their front teeth, it increases the likelihood of molar problems down the road. If your bunny is prone to molar problems, what you decide regarding the front teeth will not make a difference either way. But it’s good to know these things so you can be prepared if/when it happens.
