Hello everybunny ! I have a rabbit and i have always been soo strict when it comes to scents. When someone wants to spray perfume or body mist in my room (snowball sleeps in my room) i demand them to go spray it out in the living area at least 10 feet away. I know perfumes are way to strong. I dont us e perfumes at all. I dont use candles in my room either because i feel that Snowball will be very uncomfortable about the smell. I am VERY cautious about smells/perfumes/scents or anything of that kind when she is in here. But i was wondering if it was okay to have a diffuser in my room ? I want to put a french lavender essential oil in my room because my room does get alittle funky when she poops and pees in her littr box. i do use water and distilled vinegar when cleanning up poop and pee stains. What scents are okay to use in my room with Snowball in here ? I am just scared these scents will be stressful for her. Thank you bunny lovers

Hmm, my boys could care less about perfume. But if your bunny is sensitive, then I would suggest going with lighter scents. You can use essential oils as long as they are out of reach of bunny. If you don’t like scents, then you could get an air purifier with a charcoal filter. I have a TrueAir and it works fairly well.

As long as it’s 100% natural, lavender oil should be fine (as long as you don’t make it too strong) since buns eat lavender.

Bunnies do eat lavender plants. Oils are much more potent though. I thought I read somewhere that lavender oil should be used with caution when using it for medicinal purposes. I (personally) wouldn’t recommend using essential oils for medicinal purposes in rabbits, but I know there is literature out there regarding it. If there is a caution on it, there must be a reason. Hmm, sounds like I’m doing a Google search. LOL

Oh no… I agree… not medicinally. But she mentioned diffusing it as an air freshner, which is why I would dilute it significantly with water.

Rescue Remedy actually came to mind – contains lavender, among other things, and comes in plugins as well.

Yes, diluted oil in a diffuser should be okay. For some reason I was imagining in my head someone dabbing lavender oil on things. I would be concerned if pure lavender oil was within bunny’s reach since there are cautions out there.

I did find some stuff BTW. Apparently it causes spontaneous abortions in pregnant does. Plus a book on essential oils gave toxicity information, I’m assuming for pure oils. It said pure lavender oil was shown to cause some dermal (skin) irritation in rabbits.

I agree, undiluted essential oils should never be used directly on the skin, many of them are highly irritating.

A few drops in a diffuser should be fine though.
