Hello Everyone ! This is Bugsy

I need a bit of advice. Bugsy is 5 and a half and he has lived outdoors most of his life. After moving to our new place, his front paws seem to be starting to face inwards and he looks like he is uncomfortable to walk on them sometimes, but he still hops about and i have been told he is fine. But recently i bought him a large dog crate and did it up all ‘bunny like’ for him, to sleep in on a night. I thought he would be more comfortable and he prefers it inside a lot more. He is litter trained so on a night he runs around the living room and then gets put in the crate/cage late at night.

My question is, now it is getting colder, do i keep him indoors permanently  ?

Whilst i am at work i let him into his outdoor hutch as it is bigger, and then let him back in the house about 5:30 on a night when i get in. I am aware that the temperature change may make them ill, but it has been warm so i am mostly concerned about the winter cold on its way ! Will he be ok in the large dog cage in the day whilst i am not there ? Does anyone else do this ? Please help / give advice ??

        Thanks !

You’re right that if you plan to keep him indoors now, it probably wouldn’t be wise to put him out in the cold during the day, then in at night, especially if it’s quite cold and for long periods of time. The large dog crate should be ok, depending how much space he has in it, but you could always add an x-pen onto the front of it that he could access while you were at work too. Make sure it’s nice and tall so he can’t jump out. My two are in their condo while I’m at work, but it’s almost 6 foot long with two levels.

I’m a big fan of ex-pens because you can do so much with them. Get a couple and you can create a bigger space. I keep indoor buns because I prefer to monitor their health closely, and I like seeing them every morning when I wake up. I’ve known a few buns (not mine) who’ve died from extreme temps. and so I agree with keeping your little one inside permanently, if you’re able to.

              Thanks for advice !

At the moment he is back and forth as it is still warm in the middle of the day. I just feel mean if i keep him inside in the dog crate all day as he is a big bunny ! I will take a look at the additional pens for him
