How at risk are my bunnies for flystrike? I clean their litter once sometimes twice a day, and check their bums every other day unless i see abnormal poops. The fly got in through a small unnoticed hole in the window screen and i have no idea where it is at now. Should i worry, or should my babies be fine if i keep up our normal routine?

I think we’ve all had a fly in the house before. I live in a humid area and had this happen over summer. I panicked, but from what I understand, a healthy clean house-rabbit is largely safe. Flies will lay eggs in wet places on the fur and bottom. I never caught or saw the fly again, but Odette was fine.

I wouldn’t worry too much (that’s coming from someone who panicked…I really do think I overreacted). My advice is to check your bunnies’ feet and bottom for a few days to make sure they’re dry.

I will start checking over their bottoms daily for a while then, thank you I figured i would be over reacting too, but its always better safe than sorry

              Definitely better safe!

But, I’m sure they’ll be fine. And, I’m sure I’ll have to tell myself that again the next time a fly sneaks in

Unless their bottoms are dirty, you really don’t have much to worry about. We have flies get in the house all the time. There has never been an incident. Except the flesh fly, but that was only an incident because I squished it and it was icky. LOL

You could always hang a strip of fly paper above/near your bun’s litterbox for peace of mind.

                    Lol LBJ!

We managed to find the little bugger sitting in one of the litter boxes, so we smashed it with the litter shovel and cleaned it out We will likely be getting fly paper strips next time we hit the store. The buns love the breeze from the open window so i dont want to have to keep it closed if i can help it. Thank you guys!
