So as you’re probably sick of hearing, my boy is still sick.
And all he wants are greens, when I offer him hay he looks genuinely offended and he’s rejecting his pellet food for the most part. He’s nibbled a bit everyday, but if he sees greens he wolfs them down (like I’ve been starving him)

The baytril has had him off his food, so I have no doubt that he IS very hungry. (He went from 2.5 kg to 1.8 kg in the 2 weeks since he started the heavier dosage)
But all I keep thinking is how their diet should be mostly hay, but the only type of roughage he likes are the Naturals boredom breaker type hays, the one he currently has contains: Green oat, green wheat, parsley, melissa, peppermint, nettle, dandelion, camomile.
But I doubt they are very good for him…He likes the other versions of it aswell but here’s a link to it
        https://www.amazon.com/Boredom-Breakers-NATURALS-Herbal-Garden/dp/B000ZSW5RS )

I’ve offered him every type of hay I can find in the shops, and only the treat ones are ‘acceptable’ (ive tried mixing it in but he just digs it out)

Im wondering is it okay to let him just have his way? And give him as much of this and fresh greens as makes him happy?

We’re not sick of hearing about your bun being sick although we’d very much prefer that he gets well. You can tell him that.

The boredome-breaker hay mix sounds good to me. Probably a little richer in protein than plain grass hay, but that’s not a problem since he’s lost weight -quite the opposite, really. Green oat hay is very good for buns. I’ve not tried green wheat hay but I grow wheat grass and give it fresh. Dandelion, nettle, chamomile, Melissa, parsley, and peppermint are great herbs for buns.

If he likes green oat hay he might like a bit of rolled oats (don’t know if you’ve tried it already).
Have you tried giving him a probiotic? There are probiotic pellets and there’s probiotic powder that you sprinkle onto wet greens. They help the bunny to extract the nutrients from their food. (Antibiotics disturb the gut microbiota, and that’s why a probiotic is often recommended together with antibiotics).I’m a bit worried he’s not getting enough calories, he needs his strenght.

            Thanks bam!
Guess the little tyke will be delighted to be getting all his favourite things

Ha I’ll pass on the message if I ever catch up to him! He’s in flying form, he’s currently binkying and zooming around, so he’s not at all feeling sorry for himself(except when it’s time for me to clean his face :/ )

Yeah he’s already had oats, he’s very non plussed by them. His cage mate scoffs them down though whenever she see’s he’s being offered them XD

I may have missed something, but have his teeth been properly checked? Willingness to eat softer foods like greens, but refusing hay and pellets can be an indicator of a tooth issue because it’s painful to eat the coarser/harder food. Does he have any discharge from his eyes?

Azerene- I thought that too, he had his front teeth extracted and had the others examined while he was under anesthetic, but there were no problems with them. (Nearly 2 months ago, and he was happy to eat after that!-although one tooth grew back…! *Sigh*)
He has chronic runny eyes anyway due to scarring along the tear duct from an infection when he was young, and he has pasturella at the moments so there’s discharge from that too..

Plus he has no problems eating the hard food treats he gets(pretty sure its pretty much just apple flavored rabbit crack)
