yesterday daisy began CONSTANTLY pulling and nipping at her blankets. Never seen her do it before and it just all of a sudden started yesterday. the one that was laying flat on the floor she was grabbing with her  mouth and literally pulling it up so hard she was jumping with it (which was EXTREMELY cute). she has another blanket in her house that is attached and cannot be lifted but she is still pulling at it constantly. it doesn’t seem like she is trying to eat it, almost like she is just trying to rearrange but these 2 blankets have been in the same spots her whole life so I don’t think she would just suddenly be SO upset by them. I usually use the spray bottle with her but she didn’t care at all to the point that I had to stop so I wouldn’t soak her.

I haven’t noticed any fur pulling or excessive hay gathering but nesting is the only thing I can think of that would cause her to do this. We are waiting to have her spayed until 6 months since she still tiny we wanted her to gain some weight. does this sound like the beginning of nesting? or is she just extremely annoyed at the placement of these blankets all of a sudden? there are also two other blankets that are more like rugs and are not fluffy and she doesn’t bother them.

does this sound like the beginning of nesting?

Not really. It just sounds like something to do, a form of play. Some love to chew and dig etc. It’s like digging a burrow. It may be partly her hormones and a bit of pent up energy.

I agree with Jersey. My Yohio could energetically rearrange his blankies. He Liked to pull a very large bedspread into one of his cardboard houses, through the small door, and when he was done, he just as energetically pulled it out again. It seemed very important to him, he had to use considerable force. He was a neutered male.

thanks guys! I guess she just now discovered this new game and it did look like she was having fun with the one that we lay on the floor- she was throwing it up in the air but also throwing herself up with it! I’ve been trying to find ways to challenge her since she has SO much energy even after hours of binky 500’s around the room. glad to know she is just playing as I wouldn’t know what to do with a nesting bun!!

so we have a theory that since she isn’t spayed yet that her hormones flair up once a month-ish just like a human female. well sure enough its been just over a month since she did this last- this morning she was on a rearranging kick! she was obsessively rearranging the blankets in their house this morning then when I let them out to play she had a problem with every single blanket. we lay a blanket over the floor (for traction and snuggle purposes) and they have a bottom shelf of a book case that we put a thin sheet in for them to root around in. While I sat and laughed at her little self she fussed over the sheet on the bookcase before finally grabbing it firmly and running taking it with her into her house. she then tried to take the big blanket on the floor into the house as well.

I know usually if it were a false pregnancy she would be pulling fur from her dewlap (which she has now developed quite fully) and she’s not doing that. a few weeks ago there was one day where we came home to a chuck of her fur laying around but I could tell it wasn’t from her dewlap because that area it all white and this chunk was not. But I just wanted to post an update because I am thoroughly enjoying learning from her. it seems to be a monthly rotation where she does one of 2 things : 1. tries to hump MrBun CONSTANTLY for about a day 2.Goes crazy on the blankets for about a day as well.
She does not do either of these things on a normal basis which makes me think its connected to her hormones. Sadly, we will be spaying her within the next month or two so we’re enjoying these little things while they last!

Actually I do have some videos!! I’ll have to see if I can get them to upload when I get home to my laptop. It’s quite funny to see her so determined. It’s crazy that any other day she doesn’t care about the blankets.
