        Hi guys,

Rosie is 6 years old and is a lionhead/Rex mix. I got her from the shelter a couple of months ago, she already had skin problems but it’s getting worse..
We’ve been to the vet numerous times, she got checked for parasites, fur mites and fungus – all came back negative. She has had 2 doses of Revolution and currently has a probiotic added to her veggies. The next thing a vet wants to try is a bath…

We are running out of options and have no idea what’s going on.

        Help!

Can you give us a picture please? Fur loss can be shedding, but doh! I dont have that much experience with bunnies, but a picture can help identify whats going on.

Tested for mange? Shedding/molting usually doesnt leave bald spots for months at a time

this is the worst part – on her back; otherwise it’s pretty much everywhere on her body, just not this much hair loss- her ears, between her ears, her cheeks…

No… It just looks like it by the “roots” of the hairs.

So during our very first vet visit with bunnies, right after I got them from the shelter, their vet suggested Rosie might have thymoma (I asked about her eyes bulging).
After I saw some labored breathing from her tonight, I decided to do a little more reasearch, and apparently fur loss is one of the symptoms…

What is the test for thymoma? I know it’s hard but try not to worry too much until you can be sure.

Do the bunnies live together/bonded? Perhaps the bond mate is pulling out the fur?

Here’s some info on it: http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/Cancer/Thym/Thymoma_rab.htm

Azerane – X-ray is the only way to confirm diagnosis.

                            X-ray/ct-scan to confirm…

They do live together, they groom each other but it’s definitely not from that. Her hair follicles are swollen, that’s why there’s fur loss.

I am supposed to pick up meds for her bath tomorrow but I feel like that would just stress her out…

There are a couple of skin conditions that sometimes coincide with thymoma. Exfoliative dermatitis and Sebacious Adenitis. However, from the pictures, it does not look like the images of those conditions, but I don’t know how they look early on.

It looks as if the fur is growing back in. Could this just be a weird molt due to her coming to a new environment?

I really hope so, but she does have other symptoms like labored breath and bulging eyes…

That spot in the picture is completely bald now, there is hair loss on the ears, around her eyes and nose, and by her hind legs too. But the hair is also growing back in some places.
