        Hi all,

My 2 buns live indoor with me and are cage free. I use a very good, absorbent litter for my rabbits and clean out the litter trays almost everyday. However it doesn’t completely eliminate all litter odours! Nothing does! (I think the warm weather hasn’t helped)

Therefore I was wondering if anyone could please recommend a litter freshener? I haven’t seen any rabbit litter fresheners but I have seen loads of cat litter freshener’s. Are they safe to use for rabbits?

        Thank you!

All of the fresheners I could find contained baking soda, which is debatably harmful to bunnies. I wouldn’t risk it. Some people have luck with placing a bowl of vinegar near the boxes (out of the reach of the rabbits) to absorb the smell.
What litter do you use? I have found pine pellets to control odor very well even after several days. You may want to try those if you haven’t already.

You want pets, they come with odor. Don’t fight it, that’s the price. Don’t use fresheners – they are artificial, full of chemicals and may harm the rabbits. If your sense of smell is 1, the rabbit sense of smell is 10. So, if the freshener helps you at your nose level (high above from the freshener), it may “suffocate” the rabbit because they will feel it 10 times stronger and right under their nose.

What I would recommend you is – when the bunny is done pooping/peeing, to reduce the smell, cover the area with 1-2 handfuls of wood shavings. I used this method and it was helpful.
