Zeke gets in these moods every once in awhile where he gets wide eyed, ears back, in total fear mode, when there is nothing there. I’m able to loll him out of this state, by talking gently to him, stroking his ears and a treat. Why is he doing this, when I see or hear nothing for him to be scared of? He gets along with my dog. So?

He hears a lot better than you, his sense of smell is way more acute than yours. Plus he’s a flight animal whereas you are not really expecting predators everywhere at all times.

My Yohio does this too sometimes – he thumps, then run, and I don’t know what it is about, so I can only assume he’s hearing sth that I can’t hear. I talk to him in the calmest and most normal way I can, so as not to reinforce his fear.

It’s ironic that…someone did die in this house. O.O But he’s fine now, doing bunny 500s and binkys now

But seriously, mine does it too. I call it the “monster hour” (when he sees ‘monsters’ ). He thumps and looks terrified, more or less always by the same spot in the kitchen. I go stand next to him, he patrols the room then comes back to me, says “uh-uh” and goes back to his normal business…
