I have a 1 yo spayed Mini Rex (I assume. Definitely a rex coat) that as of late has been gaining a lot of weight. I’ve been feeding her and my Holland Lop Oliver 1/2 Cup of pellets a day along with unlimited hay (Timothy from a local farm). They get a head of Romaine or Leaf lettuce a week. I would like to feed them more greens but I’m on a limited budget. She is 5.9lbs (up from 5.3lbs 2 weeks ago) and getting a little dewlap and Oliver is at a steady 3.5lbs that hasn’t been changing. Any idea what might be going on? Is 1/2 of Oxbow Adult Rabbit Pellets a day too much?

Is that 1/2 cup each or that they share?
Could she be eating more then her share?

Mini rexes weigh up to about 4 1/2 pounds but of course, there are always variations within a breed. Desexed animals also have tendency to gain weight, as do the rex breed.

the 1/2 is shared between the two of them. Oliver usually is the hog of the pellets. Here’s a size comparison between my two if it helps. Oliver is a average sized Holland at 3.5lbs. I got Cinna from a pet store without a description of her breed.

At feeding time, I would reccomend seperating them and giving there pellets at seperate places so they dont hog. Or feed one, and onve one is done feed the other.

She does look like a mini rex. She also does look like she is carrying a bit extra weight. Could you separate them (as suggested) while they get their pellets? You could use those treat dispensing balls for their pellets so they are distracted from being apart. If you reduce her ration, just do it slowly.
