OK so Chito eats a lot of hay- like a lot. All the time he’s awake. In consequence he likes to leave trails of poop.. Everywhere he munches. Not on the hay thank heck, but on the flooring, his fleece, etc.

He’s not neutered (yet, will be soon), but this happens only when he munches and it’s like he forgets to hold his poops in when he’s so focused in getting through all these hay, and I’m wondering if neutering will help with this issue, or if there’s anything I can do. Putting hay in the litter box doesn’t work- he doesn’t want to hop even a few meters for it.

        Thanks folks!

For this specifically, I don’t think neutering will make a difference. Rabbits just poop the most while they eat hay. That’s partly why we can box train them by placing hay in the box or in a rack above it.

I’m surprised he won’t go to the box if that’s where the hay in. Funny little rabbit! What kind of box do you use?

            Yeah, I thought so too..

We have a big cat box- it’s the same he’s been using for a while! He does get in and gets business done, but he generally doesn’t want to hang around and eat hay there.

He eats it most when it’s right in front of his silly little nose, so usually I just move the hay basket to wherever he happens to be lounging at the time. He’ll jump right up and start munching, leave three, four pellets, and move to his next spot. The hay basket follows him, and round and round we go.

It’s nothing about him, though, just me wanting to cut down on cleaning time, haha lazy me!

              That’s fair enough!

              Haha, a mobile hay basket.

What type of litter? Could he not like standing on it for too long?

He doesn’t like litter (quite the digger and a heck of a muncher), so we got him one for cats that comes with a plastic grate thing to stop him from standing on pee. He loves the box!

I think the problem is with the location. Which is weird, because he picked it himself by insisting to poop and pee there even though we tried to move it. The box is situated away from the main ‘action’ at the living room, and I think he gets a case of FOMO ?
