So Kristy is probably getting close to a year old and I guess this is her big girl molting? Last night she was making teeth grinding noise that was not the purring and she worried me bc she didn’t poo at all in the evening after I changed her litter box but it was full of poops in the  morning when I emptied it this afternoon I noticed a couple of larger poops and broke them up they were full of hair, then I noticed she was looking patchy so I started yet another furminator session and intended to try the lint roller as well but I only got half way through before she had enough. Now she looks like she’s having radiation therapy… After browsing here I guess this is normal for a molt. Please let me know if I’m doing something wrong

Youll want to try to lint roller and/or brush her atleast once a day until her molt is up. It can be a few days, or a few months My Nethie sheds half of his fur over the course of about 2 months, then sheds the last half of his fur about a month later but it sheds out very fast. Most rabbits shed/molt once a year or slowly shed all year around

Chito has big molts too! one time it got so bad, he coughed and sneezed so much bc he inhaled quite a bit even after intensive grooming sessions..

I think your Kirsty is undergoing a normal big one, as long as she’s not scratching, having rashes, etc. When Chito is moulting I like to minimise the veggies and pellets and up the hay so he doesn’t get stasis.

            Go, go, Kirsty!

Looks and sounds perfectly normal to me. I agree that daily brushing is a must when going through big fur loss like this. Hair in the poop is normal, however it’s healthier for it to be in the string of pearls arrangement http://www.bunnymama.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/fecalpoop3.jpg because it means that things are still moving through at the regular pace. Larger poops or two poops smooshed together means that things have slowed down a little at some point. However the important thing is that it’s passing through as it should. Daily brushing will help minimise the amount of fur she is ingesting. Even twice daily brushing if she won’t sit still long enough for it all to be brushed in one session.

Luna doesn’t seem to shed so bad, but Apollo has a very plush coat and I get mountains of fur off of him every day.

My two shed pretty much every other week, but only from the hind quarters.

They can really molt sth terrible! My Bam has gone through a really big shed that’s lasted all summer more or less. He can get bald patches like Kristy, but on his little behind rather than around the shoulders. It’s ugly but normal.

I use a self-cleaning slicker, I pick out loose tufts of fur with my fingers and then I lint-roll.

Use wet hands to get the loose fluffs off. Works great. I use that more than brushes during a molt.

Yes, lint brush was great and really help my Caramel. She’s done for now till her next shed.

my rabbit sheds all year long non stop: small molts time to time, targeted spot, everywhere etc.
I groom her so much that she doesn’t need to groom herself anymore.
she expects mama to do the dirty work z_z…
