hey guys so i have been wanting to get my bunny a friend, because his sister rosie has sadly passed away and we really miss her so much, at first he wasn’t showing any signs of stress but after a few weeks ive notice hes not that active anymore he usually just stays up the second floor of the cage and sits there and just looks really lonely hes just kind of in his own world and wont even notice me unil i make some noise. so i have a few questions on bonding

        1) Is it better to get a female or male? because i want this bunny and its from the same shelter we got him he is 11 months but i heard it is better for male and female pair so im not really sure

        2) does age matter when bonding?

        3) for example if i get a new bunny and they become bonded when i bring both home to their enclosure will my old bunny become territorial and aggressive towards the new bunny? or will they stay bonded or do i have to continue with bonding session?

It is generally easiest to bond a male to a female, although you can bond same sex rabbits. Age shouldn’t matter much at all, as long as both rabbits are spayed or neutered. Even though speed dating might be helpful in choosing a companion, dating does not guarantee that the rabbits will bond or bond easily once you bring the new one home. Rabbits may act differently when under the stress of a strange place and strange situations, than they will when they are back home. Even if they seem to get along well at the shelter, you will have to go through the bonding process when you bring the new bunny home.

I’m sorry about the loss of Rosie. I hope that you will be able to easily bond your bunny with a new companion.
