Hi everyone. (Or everybun as I like to say occasionally. Though people do look at me strangely.) I’ve been inactive lately, been away for the summer. Chomondeley stayed with my mother and a couple of other pet sitters, all of whom did a decent job. However, I was away for a month, the longest time I’ve ever been away from him. Once I got back, I almost immediately jumped back into my busy schedule… now, I feel like I don’t get to see him that often, and I feel so awful about it. I don’t want him to be bored or unhappy while I’m gone. I try to spend as much time as possible with him, but I just can’t seem to find as much time as I used to… any ideas or help? I would love suggestions! Anyone gone through the same thing?

Thanks!! Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section!

Hi Cinny! I’ve been on the same boat. I was doing my thesis and 3 part time jobs last year. Free time was not really a thing. For me what works is to schedule stuff, so I knew if I’d do X amount of stuff during the day I could reward myself with an hour of free time in the evening. That’s where I’d hang out with Chester. Working from home for my thesis also helped, since I could take small 5 minute breaks and play with him.

Overall, I feel like it’s more the quality than the quantity of time you spend with them. Just do your best

I have the perfect solution, adopt a second bunny to keep Chom company!

In all seriousness though, I’m not too sure what to suggest. I suppose anytime you need to be doing something try to do it while hanging out with him. Such as if you have to fold clothes or something, fold clothes while spending time with him. If you’re worried that he could be getting bored, try changing up his toys as well and giving him treats that he has to find in a treat ball or dig box to keep him occupied.

my buns have 2 main free times. first is morning play time: I let them out while I get ready for work to run a bit. and usually try to save 10 extra minutes for some mommy bun snuggle time before feeding them and putting them back in their cage. then when I get home from work I try to let them out while I get stuff done. I agree with azerane that a second bun would keep chom company but if your schedule is that busy I think it would be really difficult to find time to bond them and get the new bun used to their new home. If Chom is well behaved just try to let him out while you go about your day.

Thanks you guys. I might start trying to be home for lunch so I can spend a little more time with him. On weekends I get to spend a little more time with him too. Azerane- I would love to adopt a second bun, but I’m worried that they won’t bond well/I don’t want to have no time for the second rabbit, either. I just hope Chom is happy, that’s all I want for him.

Are there any boarding places that offer rabbit bonding for a fee? Perhaps someone else could bond them for you. Otherwise, lots of toys to play with and perhaps you could do something like eat your dinner sat a small/coffee tablet sat on the floor every now and again so you can spend some time with him.

i understand your reasoning for not getting a second bun. in the future I would try to find the time to do that as a friend would really be best but since you don’t have the time to invest in a new bun right now I would just try to give him lots of toys and obstacles. make sure he has entertainment while you’re not there and good for you for finding extra time for him! try to do the same thing everyday- he will learn the routine and will know when mom is coming home. Lucky for me I work 9-5 which is napping time for most buns anyway but they have learned now when play time is. If I sleep in later than usual they’re making lots of noise to wake mommy up for our play date! Chom will learn when to expect you and will most likely adapt and sleep while you’re gone. if only we could all be stay at home bunny parents!!

Thank you both. Chom had his run-around time today and seemed happy, binkied a bit. He used to groom me all the time (licking my hands and nibbling my clothes to straighten them out) but now, he isn’t as much.. which worries me slightly.
