So I’ve been away the past two weeks or so, and my family were minding my rabbits.
On Thursday my mam noticed Sampras sneezing, and brought him to the vet. They said it looked like it was caused by compaction of food into the hole where his teeth used to be. They gave him oral dose of baytril and sent him and my mom home, told her to come back a week later.
She brought him back yesterday morning becsuse he was struggling to breathe, where they said he had a URI , gave him an injection of baytril and steroids to reduce the swelling in his nose, and were bringing him back today.
When asked about probiotics they said a good diet would be better for him.
He’s on burgess hay, and eats Selective food, which although maybe not the best best food, its Bette err than what a lot of rabbits are fed here. He normally gets fresh veg too but he’s off then due to a sticky bottom.

His breathing is horrendously laboured, and he keeps trying to sneeze out the blockage in his nose, any suggestions to help ease it for him? He really doesn’t want me touching it as the skin is sensitive from being rubbed at and wet with discharge.

If you can get hold of a bulb syringe (like baby nose aspirator or ear syringe) that might help clear some stuff away.

If stuff is not running out, get him into a steamy bathroom. The other thing that is really good is setting up a nebulising chamber, but that takes time and you’d need supplies on hand. Something to look into though if he remains snuffly.

I’ve also read about using a decongestant like bisolven for rabbits. You may need to run that past your vet though. You may come across some sources that recommend Benadryl for snuffly rabbits but I think that name in the UK is a different medication. I’ve heard of Piriton being used instead.

              Thanks JerseyGirl ^.^
He got an injection of Baytril today and the vet has agreed to inject the baytril instead of dosing him orally –The injections dont bother him in the least, but wrestling with syringe in his mouth is horrible and is making him really afraid of people
So far he’s trying to be his normal self, but he’s out of breath very quickly and his appetite is down, but he spent the evening in the glass house lounging and eating the grass, and his friend Yumi decided to give his eyes a thorough wash, still took me a further half an hour to clean the grime away from his nose and paws u.u

The congestion can make it tricky for them to eat, especially if he has been mouth breathing a bit.
Keeping the environment cool can help these rabbits also.
Hope youve been able to clear away some of the gunk!
