        Another question.

Do all rabbits dig? I am asking because my bun doesnt really dig much… maybe a few seconds seconds a few times a day on the blanket… but that is it. He rarely digs in his litter box.

He sometimes starts digging if we annoy him like offer too much head rubs… or if he wants to be left alone. Occasionaly if he sits on my chest and wants to get down (when I lay in bed) he makes a few digging moves on me and then hops down.

I like watching him dig… I wish he would dig more.

It depends on the personality. My bunny digs everything, clothes, towels, blankets and chews everything, he even ate plastic when I wasn’t looking. If your rabbits more calm and less destructive than he might dig less. It depends on the rabbit.

I was under the impression that digging is part of rabbit nature; as with burrowing and chewing.

Though every creature has unique personality features…

Perhaps if given a preferable digging situation it could become more fun and he might do it more often.

Make him a dig box. If you want to watch Josip play make it out of a clear plastic storage box. I cut papertowel rolls in half inch sections to fill the digbox up a couple inches deep.
Then I drop and hide treats under the cardboard rings. It becomes a dig and toss bunny adventure!!!
Don’t forget to cut a door in the box for Josip to hop in when he wants to dig play

GeorgieTheBunny, it’s true that digging is very central to a rabbit. In nature, it’s the females that do the bulk of the digging though. Young males can do a bit of digging esp in the spring, but they’re not as diggy as the females who are highly motivated diggers because the need burrows where they have their kits. Cottontail rabbits like to use left-over holes that other animals have made, but they don’t place their kits underground.

My bunny Yohio likes to dig in fleece blankies and bed-sheets, but not excessively so. Bam doesn’t dig much exept when he sits in somebody’s knee and gets pet.

              Dig boxes make great enrichment.

Dig boxes are great enrichment! On warm days, I like to let Chomondeley run around in an Xpen in the garden and he’ll occasionally dig at the soil (make sure your bun doesn’t dig out, though!) He’ll dig at newspaper too. Cinnamon was a bigger digger though, and I assume that’s because she was female.
