Hi!   I’m relatively new to bunneh’s as house pets, and while I’ve been working towards having a house raddit for a while, some of what Clover does still amazes/astounds me.

She’s on her 4th day here, and it’s like she’s lived here he entire life.   One her 3rd day, she discovered how to jump up on the couch, and today, she’s figured out that my lap was ALSO on the couch.  She put the two together, and now she’s been parked on my lap for the last 2 hours.

And in addition, she loves to stick her head under my feet, and just sleep like that.   This doesn’t seem like normal Bunneh behavior, but what do I know?

        Is this normal?

It sounds like Clover is very affectionate, outgoing and very people oriented. Some rabbits are like that, but certainly not all of them. You didn’t state her age. It could be that she will change somewhat as she matures, but it’s nice that you are getting to enjoy this. Not all of us are lucky enough to have a bunny who wants to lie in our laps.

Whoops!  Sorry, she’s 2 years old.  An American Chinchilla, and a BIG girl.    I should note I’ve known her for a while, and only recently got to the point where I was able to adopt her and house her properly.  She’s been a show bunny, and lived outside most of her life, which is why I so surprised at how well she’s taking to being a house bunneh.  When we first met I think it was love at first sight, as she crawled out of her elevated cage and draped herself across my shoulders and refused to get off.  So I think she’s been “mine” for a while.

Clearly, I’m on a steep learning curve here.  In the few days she’s been here, she’s figured out how to get up on the couch, and help herself to my lap.  But I also see her roll over on her back, belly in the air, and sleep like that.  Unusual, I think.

She’s terrific with the two kittens in my house, ages 6 months and 3 months, and it cracks me up to see them take turns chasing each other.  Especially since Clover towers over the kittens.

One thing I’m considering is giving Clover free run at night.  My house has slick wooden flooring, so to give her traction I have certain areas covered with rubber mats and carpet runners.  She has room to run and bink, but she won’t walk on the slick areas for lack of traction.  Everywhere she can reach is bunny proofed to a fare thee well.

I’m glad she’s here.  It’s clear this rabbit adores me, and I’m going to do all I can to deserve it.

I love my bunny but am jealous of the love you are receiving. That’s wonderful!

Being a show bun makes her more accustomed to handling and people. You seem to have a hearty friend

With the new mats and her having been an outdoor rabbit until now I would NOT let her have free nightly run of your place yet.

She may grow accused to the slippery floor and venture off the carpets where you don’t expect. She may also choose to munch on those rubber mats, if she tastes them during the day you would notice, at night she may eat enough to hurt herself before you can stop the behaviour.

It’s been a few days, take it slow. As you’ve said she’s figuring things out very well, she may try a few more things.

I’ve heard that since rabbits are warren animals (community) it’s incredibly lonely to house them outside because they don’t get the benefit of being with others. I’d say Clover knows what she has come into – a loving home – and she couldn’t be happier.

Clover is a very affectionate bunny! Not all bunnies are people oriented, you truly deserve her

As what Georgie suggested, perhaps you can introduce let her free roam in the day, so you can take note of the behaviour. Once she is accustomed to the surroundings(and marked her place), you can safely let her free roam 24/7. You can start to ‘train’ her once she settles down(give it a week or so) and you can try to hide treats around the house for her to find!

I’m disabled, so I’m home all day long, and she’s been free roaming pretty much since she got here.  Clearly thinks I put this house here just for her, lol.

I’ve bunny proofed her accessible areas to a fare thee well, and she hates the slick floors so she stick to her carpets and mats.  She’s very happy, if her almost constant binking is any proof.   She’s a remarkably good bunny.  Some marking outside her litter box and cage, but it’s lessened as she gets used to things here.

She has no compunctions about leaping into my lap for cuddles!  Last night, she sat there for almost 4 hours, watching the tv with me.

What do you suggest for treats?  She has LOTS of toys, including me.

                  Thanks for the welcome!

I don’t know whether to be flattered, or disgusted.  Someone spilled a bunneh in my lap.

                      Treats!

Bunnehs love treats! She is going to be so happy

Healthier treats included things like parsley and cilantro; it’s a green and therefore healthier but oh so fragrant
Yummy sweet treats include apples, bananas, raisins or cranberry raisins, papaya, and berries but in small quantities. People quote “sweet treats the size of your thumb”

My Georgie is in love with her pellet crunchies so I use those
