I’ve had a female bunny (finley) for about 3 years now. She’s very calm, still litter trained post puberty, And is very calm. During roam time, she dosnt even like toys. She just hops around slowly and lays a lot. Cuddles her stuffed animals. She’s full grown at just barely 3 pounds. She is not spayed. At the time when she was younger I had no job or means to have it done, and she was so calm and had little to no issues with puberty, it wasn’t a pressing matter. (Yes I now know about uterine cancer)

My sister got a hold of a bunny that was about to be released in the wild because it was unwanted. So she brought it to me. This bunny (clover) is wild! High energy, loves to run, loves to jump, doing well with litter training so far. She’s a little under a year old and at about 4 pounds. She is humping my husband like all the time.

So during run time, one at a time, they always go to the others cage and sniff eachother and say hello. They seemed to be doing well (their cages are side by side). I know it’s unlikely to bond two intact females. But they seemed to do well side by side so I tried it. Not well! Finley seemed very calm, ignoring her or just being curious. Clover was charging and chasing and pulling out tiffs of fur and fighting her. So I separated them and were gonna call that a wrap for now.

Should clover be spayed? Will that help her bond with finley? Would they both need to be spayed? Is Finley too old? Can a spayed and unspayed female bond?

I would just keep letting them be in their separate cages and have individual run time, but I’d like to bond them if possible so they aren’t as lonely. Would clover ever calm down in general if not spayed? I know everyone says no, but Finley is very calm and shows no dominance issues or anything like that. Anyway, help is appreciated. We’re moving next week so there will be lots of new neutral ground.

They would both need to be spayed. Some rabbits react to other rabbits hormones as well, which will cause them to want to fight again. Plus, spaying them at the same time might help them bond as they heal next to one another in their own cages. They will see the other more as comfort while they heal, rather than someone to attack or ignore
