I just lost my bunny, Benny. He was only about 6-7 months old and I just feel so guilty.

He died of GI Stasis due to an infection called Peritonitis. My vet believes something happened when he got neutered just 3 weeks ago (not by the same vet). I just feel like I should have noticed something was wrong sooner…. Or like I should have given him more attention before he passed, as I feel like I unintentionally give more attention to my Ollie (he’s my first bun). The day before he died he was hunched up in the corner of his cage, which I didn’t think much of, since I had left him with my mother for a few days while I was out of town. I figured he was just mad at me. This was the longest I had been away from any of my buns….

I just can’t get his limp, poor self out of my head. How do y’all manage with grieving the loss of your rabbits? I can’t help but feel it’s my fault he died. ): any advice or support would be greatly appreciated…..

        ):

Try not to feel guilty. Bunnies can get sick and pass very quickly, there often isn’t anything you could have done. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Benny. Sending you lots of hugs and nose rubs to Ollie. <3

I’m very sorry about the loss of your Benny. It wasn’t your fault. I know you feel guilty, but really, it’s very difficult to detect illness in a bunny, they hide it extremely well. They can’t vomit like a dog or cat would’ve. They never ask for help, because they are prey animal so they have deep instincts telling them to lay very low when they aren’t feeling right.

It is always difficult to deal with the loss of a pet. It just means we loved and cared about the pet, so it’s not a bad thing, just a painful thing. You could make a small memorial over him, a collage of pictures perhaps. You can post it here or if you have instagram you could post it there. Choose pics where he was happy and healthy so those pics can replace the sad picturea in your head.

            Binky Free, Benny.
