When checking Oreo this morning the mucus was everywhere.  She is limpish when i pick her up and not fighting when i try to clean her up or give her meds.  I have managed to clean her up and give her antibiotics.  I am not sure what to do now. I don’t think she is going to make it. I have managed to give her some water with Pro-C Probiotic in on a spoon.

Is there any normal poo along with mucus? You might be seeing some mucoid enteritis due to the coccidia. Are your vets currently open?
By the way, was is definitely coccidia the vet diagnosed?

The parasite the vet suspected began with a C but cannot remember the exact word she said.  My vets is closed today.  Her poop is long brown and covered with the mucus. She is moving around a little now.  She is with me all the time so i can monitor her and keep offering her water.  I am hopeing that if i can get fluid down her it will keep her going.  I also have some critical care but not sure if to give it to her.

Actually the poop is in a long brown and soft covered in mucus. There is a lot of it.  I am going to try to get hold of an emergency vet.

Hello, I have read by your posts that you are in the UK. I think your bunny may need to be admitted and given subcutaneous fluids since fluids by mouth don’t always help as much. It sounds like her illness may be progressing. Even if it is a possible sensitivity to the antibiotic she is on, the vet can help get her stabilized.
I really hope Oreo is okay and will recover. Keeping you in my thoughts.

There are some products available in the UK that may be helpful. Fibreplex ( a paste) and Bio-Lapis. You can try offer the Critical care in a bowl and see if she’ll eat it. Well done with offering water. Staying hydrated is important. If you able to see a vet, they may be able to give more fluids by IV or subcutaneously if they think it is necessary.

ETA: If she has to go on a pain med, it’s preferrable it’s a narcotic rather then NSAID in these cases.

I have found out from the vet what parasite she has.  It is called Coccidiosis.  The vet is ringing me back. The vet has rang me back and told me that there are no other treatments for this and it is TLC, getting her to eat and drink and hope she pulls through.

Are you in or near a city that has multiple vets?

If she’s not drinking/eating, do proceed to buy Critical Care and force-feed her according to the instructions on the packaging.

About the drinking, you can admininster subcutaneous fluids yourself by buying physiologic solution, an IV needle for children and a 10ml syringe, but you’ll need to ask the vet how much of it to give her. It’s not a complex procedure, it’s more tough on the human than on the animal.

I’m a bit confused why your vet told you you can’t treat Coccidosis. They don’t always work, but there are several possible treatments for this. From the articles I found, in France, we use “robénidine hydrochloride”, antibiotics like sulphonamide and trimethoprim, sulphaquinoxaline (1 g / litre of water), sulphadimérazine (2 g / litre of water), Salinomycine (Bio-Cox®), Diclazuril (Clinicox®) or Toltrazuril (Baycox®) 2-5 mg/kg twice and then again after 5 days.
All treatments have to be given for at least 5 days and given again after five days.
From what I know, the longer you wait the harder it is to treat.

I also think subcutaneous fluids would be a good idea, diarrhea causes deshydratation very fast.

I hope Oreo will pull through !

                                    Recovery plus is very good.
If you can’t get enough in her, sub q fluids might be needed.
Bunnies can survive ciccidiosis. Science Supreme have good products, I’ve used a few of them.
In addition you can give Pro C probiotics or fibreplex or Synbiotic D-C, beneficial microorganisms that can colonize the intestines and out-compete bad microorganisms.

                                      Thanks Bam

I am also giving her Pro C probiotics in water through a syringe now as well as Recovery Plus.  Thank goodness for keeping a first aid box it is so important.   She does not like me doing it obviously and can still manage a scratch or two bless her. Will check for the other products you mentioned.
