Hi my name is Marie.  I am new to the forum and also a new bunny mum to 2 very sweet little girls.  Caramel is a lop eared 10 wk old who is very playful and bounding around all the time and loves new toys.  She has sniffed me a few times but not yet ready to be stroked.  Oreo is a lion head, she is more layed back and loves to be cuddled and will lay in my arms for a long time.  I have only had them since saturday so spend time sitting with them to get them to bond with me.  They have now claimed my summer house, furniture removed.  They have a two storey hutch inside but i never close the door as the summer house doors are locked at night and i have a grid across the doors when they are open in the day unless they are in the garden.  Looking forward to getting to know other forum member.

HI Marie and welcome – Caramel and Oreo… yum !!!! LOL
I sounds as if they are going to have a lovely time in your family – there are LOTS of bits of info on this site and don’t hesitate to ask any questions – we’re all on here to help each other and make bunny friends.
Do you have a picture of the girls? Are they going to be spayed ? Caramel will get bolder when she realises she’s safe. Time and patience is the key

            Hi Vienna Blue

They are going to the vets tomorrow for their injections.  I was going to speak to the vets about having them spayed.  Can you give me your opinion as to having them spayed.  They are so well bonded at the min not sure if that will change as they get older.  Will post a photo of them later and where they are living.

Experience from other members say they will change as they get older. The sweet little cute little huggy buns will go through adolesence. Some remain cute and huggy, some rebel from all off-the-floor (ie being picked up) hugs (mine).

It is also a known fact that uterine cancer is exceedingly high in unspayed girl bunnies (obviously not in boys!) once they reach 3 or 4 years old.

I umm’d and ahh’d about getting Zou (my rabbit) done and because her hormones really kicked in when she was 2 (just gone) and so I got her op’d… which turned out to be a good thing because her ovaries were ‘worryingly strange (as the vet put it) – or maybe her change of personality which I put down to hormonal change was actually her in some sort of pain or discomfort.

Anyhoo, everyone but everyone on here WILL say girl buns should be spayed.

Lots of différences of opinions as to exactly when though – some say ASAP, before the girls start to get into rebelling teenhood. Some say wait until they don’t seem too bonded and get them done when they start having a go at each other.

Myabe another member will be able to advise on if getting them done at the same time and so recovering together side by side makes a bond stronger between 2 girls ?
