Hi I’m new here and thought I’d see if anyone could help

        I’ve two male rabbits

        1 x lionhead who is 1.5yrs old
1 x lionhead cross who is 5 months old

They both got neutered two wks ago

They have been running side by side for past 5 wks in same run (partition in between them) and they’ve been so happy. So I’ve tried removing the divider a couple of times but the older one just tries and mounts the younger one constantly so I just put barrier back up so back to side by side so left a few more days and tried again today and for first hr they were fab so I thought ok I will build their double indoor hutch and bam the older one started again so I had to separate them as the younger one looked depressed. Have to say the older one is about half size of the younger one lol

Does anyone have any advice I’ve tried everything but not sure what to do now xx

You only have to remove mounting after about 10 seconds. Its so they can determine who is the alpha and who is the sub. If all they are doing is mounting (no biting, chasing, ect) then you should start more bonding sessions with them. Even bonded pairs will mount once in a while. Its perfectly ok as long as theyre both spayed/neutered and neither of them start a fight over it

I’ve noticed the wee one chasing the other one round the outdoor hutch to mount him

They both got neutered at same time

Two weeks post-neuter might be a little soon for bonding since their hormones are going to be all over the place. If you see any aggression, then it might be better to wait a couple more weeks so they can settle down.

As far as mounting goes, it is a perfectly normal part of the bonding process. If they are not being aggressive with each other (i.e. simply mounting), then it’s best to just let them “hump things out”. As Mikey says, they need the opportunity to sort out who is who in the relationship. If humpee is becoming stressed, then only allow the humping to continue for a few seconds at a time. Some people use a stuffed animal to redirect the bunny. This may or may not work, but it doesn’t hurt to try.
