I have a 4 year old neutered male lop mix that is liter trained trained and cage free. As he is free to roam, he interacts with a cat and dog that also live in the house. He is particularly fond of the dog that he will rub up against and give baths (which the dog will reciprocate). At the end of next month my rabbit and I are moving into an apartment with no other pets (two human roommates). I’m afraid that the move will already be stressful enough, but my rabbit will feel isolated. However, he has never had a rabbit companion and also worried that since the move is next month, getting another rabbit will just stress him more. I’ve contacted a local rabbit rescue about my situation, but I’m interested to hear what others have to say!

I would not get another pet for atleast a month after you move. Let hims settle in and decide for himself if he needs a friend or not. Many rabbits are perfectly find being alone. Also note, be may be lonely for a while afterwards, but its because he misses his friends. That doesnt mean he wants a new friend. It would be best to wait it out

My cousin had a really smooth bonding experience when she adopted a second rabbit after she moved into a new house, because the new house was neutral territory. That being said, both bonding and moving into a new house are stressful for rabbits, so you may want to wait a little. Keep some rooms in the house off-limits to your current rabbit so that you’ll have some neutral territory when you decide to get a second rabbit. I say “when”, because if you enjoy taking care of rabbits, you’ll likely end up with multiple fluff balls. Rabbit ownership is habit-forming

Both ideas are good but I would say to go with Mikey’s idea. Just save a room that he doesn’t go in as neutral incase you decide to get him a friend.
