Sorry this is going to be a bit lengthy but I’m having trouble with both my rabbits pooping in their bed. I have a neutered male named Moo who is about 3 years old and an unaltered female rabbit who is a year old, Toki. They both love to snuggle on this large bed I got them, but they also poop on it all the time! I know they both do it because their poops are different sizes. It’s always covered in their droppings by the end of the day and the worst part is Moo doesn’t just poop on it, but he also pees on it! He only pees on it once and he only does it when I clean the bed(washing it) which has become a daily routine for me. I don’t really understand why they would want to poo or pee where they like to sleep. ): Moo uses the litter fine and never pees or poos anywhere except on their bed. I know this also falls a bit off of the topic, but Toki poops pretty much anywhere, but never pees anywhere except the litter box. Is this because she’s not spayed? I’m afraid to get her fixed because she is so so tiny(1.1 pounds). I’m not sure if size is an issue for fixing a rabbit. Before I got her, her previous owner had been keeping her in a tiny cage with wire flooring so she just pooped wherever so I never really got to litter train her. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated!

Bunnies love peeing and pooping on soft surfaces like beds and couches. In nature, bunnies don’t sleep on soft surfaces, they never line their burrows with anything. I don’t know why they like to pee on soft things, but they do. The only real solution is to not let them have soft beds.

Intact bunnies are more apt to pee- and poop-mark their environment. 1,1 lb is a very tiny bunny, you’d have to consult with a good rabbit vet about getting her spayed. I don’t suppose she’ll get bigger since she’s a year old. You can try to litter-train her now, she most likely won’t get perfect litter habits, but they could improve some.
