Recently i moved to a new place with my uncle and two bunns. I am concerned because rabbits need exercise and at the moment they are not getting any because they refuse to go on the laminate floor. They don’t like the floor because it lacks traction and at most will only take one step onto the floor before they freeze up or hop back to the safety of the enclosure. I don’t have any other place to let them hop around because i am worried to let them hop around outside due to the spiders and other critter that roam about my uncles yard (possible zoonotic disease or poisoning due to unfamiliar grass etc.). I could lay down more blankets for them to hop on but this would inconvenience my uncle. While their current enclosure is still pretty big (3×5 ft per <7ib rabbit) i would like them to get more exercise and maybe train them to like the new flooring because they are starting to get agitated (increase in aggression and more rattling cages).

Can you throw down a large rug or two instead of using blankets?

Yeah, I agree with the area rug idea. We take our buns into the laundry room for exercise and play and they love the rug. We also sprinkle some soft litter around areas that they like to nest so they can dig and lay on that. However, around the area rug is hard concrete and they don’t seem to mind that, so I’m not sure about why their reactions are so strong to the smooth flooring. Definitely recommend trying a rug. Although, piling a blanket or towel in the corner will probably entice them to lay on it, too.

Yea, rabbits don’t like slippery floor.
When Ender came home with us (Our apartment is 100% slippery tiles), he would barely walk around. He eventually kinda got the idea, but he was 3 months old so I think he kind of learned to walk on it? Since then we’ve used cardboard to give him some traction and while he still goes around the slippery tiles he stays within the cardboard floor most of the time.
