        Hi guys,

I just got home. I was in a college class.

I left food and everything ready for my bunny as I left before he got up (he was sleeping).

Well my bunny sitter was not a great one and I forgot to get the bag of pellets OUT of the room (because he often finds ways to get it).

        So…here is my issue.

He ate a lot of pellets. I have no idea how much he ate as everything was spilled on the carpet.

He looks a little bloated and he is finally eating his greens.

So what can I do so he won’t feel too terrible? His stomach (senior rabbit) is very sensitive and often if feed improper has tummy aches.

Stinky cute thing! He is eating his greens sooooo happily. I am sure he is saying “good thing you were out late today” or “Hahahaha I finally got my paws on more pellets”. Stinker…

He..can’t poop? Hes in his litter box trying, but nothing.

He has had issues with eating too much pellets. He just likes them so much. I wonder why? I can even use them as treats really. He likes them that much. I only give him 1/4 per day is this ok? so a few in the morning and some at dusk. Should I give him more? Less?

I was wondering if you guys can also tell me what kind of rabbit he is. His medical papers when I adopted him said he has a silverfox mix, but I have no idea. I have never talked to my vet about identifying him. In the mean time please let me know if you know what kind of rabbit he is.The doctor said he is at a good weight and that he is not obese (he currently weights 8.1pounds).

Hes been having a few issues keeping his bum clean (sometimes not all the time) so I don’t want him gaining any more weight, but hes reaching out for the pellets desperately so I want to make him happy.

How can I compromise with my bunny so he will be healthy and still gets his pellets?

        Thank you very much.

        Cyndy

If he is not pooping, there is a blockage likely due to eating so much. Will he let you massage his belly lightly, in little circles? I would try that for a little while and encourage him to drink a lot of water. If he doesnt go within an hour after that, youll need a vet so he doesnt get too backed up

I agree with Mikey. Give him an hour max, then take him in. Sometimes drinking isn’t enough, you need to give sub Q fluids to hydrate the intestines. If he were a dog he could just vomit, but rabbits can’t vomit. A blockage is very serious, so don’t leave this alone.

Most rabbits absolutely love pellets. That’s normal for a rabbit. 1/4 cup for an adult, healthy 8-pound rabbit sounds good to me, but you should of course always try to monitor weight and adjust the amount of pellets accordingly.

            Sending him many good healing-vibes.

Is he going to be ok?

It’s not possible to say, of course. A vet would have to do an x-ray to see if there’s a blockage or gas. But poop is GOOD NEWS!!! Keep’em coming, little bun!

                    Hi
All is well he pooped a lot during the night and this morning (I woke up periodically at night to check on him). He was active just a few minutes ago and now he went to sleep. I saw more poops this morning so I think he should be ok. He was eating hay and his morning greens. I am going to hold off the pellets (this will make him really mad), just because I think I need to.
When I take him in I will ask the vet more about this issue.
Thank you guys. Its good having you guys here.

So glad to hear he’s on the mend! These little bunbuns can really scare us so!
If he’s a good hay-eater, taking him off pellets for a couple of days shouldn’t harm him.

                        Yes relief hes fine! Thanks
Bam do you think it’s a good idea to have some xrays done?
However I think it would be expensive and I am not sure if his insurance covers something like that.
Maybe one xray every few months?
I dunno tell me what you think.
Also since he is a senior bunny is there vitamin supplements I should give him?
                        Thanks
