Ok so, I left Hopper with my grandparents over night while I helped out moving (I’m moving) and when I came back I noticed he had tore two nails, both bleeding) and had diarrhea. Both nails were his declaws on his forepaws. (I thought I trimmed them when I cut his nails less than 2 weeks ago but apparently not…) I dipped his paws into a dixie cup of baking soda, to help the bleeding. Unfortunately, since Hopper is unneutered and got frustrated when I kept pushing his head away to get to his paws. He thumped his hind paw and did a grunt/growl to show he was upset so I left him alone. Now for the diarrhea. It wasn’t a whole lot, just a few lose vowel movements. I had made him a toy about a week ago, it was a brown paper bag, timothy hay, and carrots. I left it in the cage for about 3-4 days until all the treats inside was gone. I was thinking maybe the diarrhea was caused by some of the bag. My grandma said she had just given him his normal expect for a single carrot. The diarrhea is not to bad expect it sticks to his bottom and his paws. Where can I find that special rabbit shampoo or anything else that would work to clean him up. I’m going to give him some oats to help with his stomach. I don’t think, and I hope, it is not a big emergency. This is my first rabbit and first torn claw so any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

All diarrhea calls for a vet visit as soon as possible! Diarrhea can cause rabbits to die for many different reasons, very fast. It needs to be treated as soon as you can. Until he can see a vet, make sure he is eating a ton of hay, no treats, and cut back a small bit on pellets

Torn claws are also bad. It sounds like he was scared/nervous or just upset, and kept digging and digging until his claws tore off. Thats not good. Its also possible he was mishandled which caused them to rip off. Either way, he was not in a good situation, even if everyone involved meant well. He has to see a vet

Thanks for replying soon but he isn’t having constant diarrhea, he still has some regular droppings in the cage, just a few here and there. My grandparent’s didn’t handle him since it was just overnight and I would be back the next day to let him out. He acted normally fine, I’m unsure of how his nail torn but there was no sign of constant digging, I believe it just got snagged. He was more interested in getting pets then anything else. Thanks again though.

Update: So far he hasn’t had anymore diarrhea, going to update again sometime tomorrow.

To clean him up, use a mild, hypoallergenic soap, such a Kirk’s Castille or Clearly Natural. It comes in a scented or unscented version. Or use a hypoallergenic, non medicated shampoo. If he’s not stained too badly, you could use a wet washcloth on him with a little bit of soap. If he needs more cleaning, you could put him in a small plastic dish tub (on the floor, which is safer) with a tiny bit of water. You could also try cleaning him with baby cornstarch powder, which is the dry method.
