Just adopted a 10 week old mini Holland lop named Pixie. I have had her for 3 days now and just today I noticed that she was covered in pee and her poop is soft (but still lil round coco puffs) and got all over her bum. I have spent much of my time with her during the past 3 days and I have never seen her covered in pee until today. Her cage is set up with also a litter area for her to pee and I have checked the places she has been laying in her cage and outside the cage and they seems to be dry. Her poop however seem to be more moist then normal. Very sticky and not just the grape ones that they consume. All of her poo is sticky and wet and I’ve noticed her sitting for a long time in the area I made for her to pee (I use paper based litter for her litter training). Could it be stress? Maybe the change in pellets due to the person I adopted her from did not give me food and has not answered her phone to tell me the kind she has been feeding her? Just very concerned because I have not had this problem with my other 2 rabbits which are a Flemish giant (7 months old) and a mini rex (2 years old). Had my flemish since he was the same age and didnt have a problem with such a wet and messy bum. She has longer hair on her bum so I have been using Natural Care Hypoallergenic baby wipes to try and remove all the poo and clean the pee off of her while dipping her bum in water and also brushing her fur to remove any knots. Trying my best to keep up with it but its just soo messy. Why all of a sudden??? any thoughts?

Id also like to add that she is eating and drinking just fine but has slowed down eating pellets. Eating hay and drinking water normally. hopping around outside of her cage normally but she is extremely scared of us. I stand up or go near her and she runs. I lay down on the floor to get to her level and she gets close enough to sniff me and then runs. So also working with her on that. :/

            Hi Misty
It sounds like she needs a vet check up unfortunately. The messy poop could be from a gut imbalance or intestinal parasite like coccidia. The pee is a bit of a worry too. If could be from her sitting in her urine (which is not normal) but also, she might have developed a tract infection if the area had been getting soiled with the loose poop. The hair loss would be from the urine.

            What is her diet like?
Stress and diet could both factor into it but I’d want to be ruling out the other things first. Always a good idea to get a new rabbit a health check anyway.

Is it just her underside covered in pee?

Yes, her underside is covered in pee. Her under back legs and around her area. I’ve been cleaning it every time that I see it but its become a bit out of control. I will be calling the vet then asap.

Also noticed with her poo that it has a slight bit of mucus.Like clearish. I read some forums on here that it might be from eating the pellets. So I’m just hoping all of this is from the sudden change in pellets and nothing worse. I have my fingers crossed.

Sounds as is she has some “urine scald”.

The mucus indicates there is some inflammation in her gut. It would be hard to say if this can all be attributed to the pellets. Your vet might recommend you do just a hay diet for several days for her, to see if it helps get the poo back into better form. What type of hay does she eat?

Since shes new, Ive been giving her about 2 tablespoons of pellets 2 times a day. Morning and night and unlimited supply of hay and water
